My wife and I just returned from a trip to Bali for our 25th anniversary. This was our second hotel out of 3 which we stayed at during our week there as we traveled around the island. We both had a wonderful experience here and would highly recommend this homestay to any others coming to Bali. In retrospect thinking about the 3 locations (Ubud, east side, and southern peninsula) this location was our favorite. The peaceful quite setting looking out over the rice fields, the friendly owners, and the wonderful food, not to mention the nearby water temples, were all amazing. If we get to come back to Bali, this is where we would spend our time rather than all the bouncing around wanting the experience it all in a week. Be sure if you go here to take up the offer for the key to open the gate and wander down to the creek below. A small temple is there among the banana trees, and if you stroll down the path along the creek you will come out along a gorgeous scene and right into the community where you will find the big water temple. You won't be disappointed! Just a side note about the food - they have a very nice terrace dining area and prepare food to order from a nice menu assortment. We tried as much variety as we could from their restaurant in the time there and everything was perfect. If you stay elsewhere, you are still able to wander on over to eat here as it isn't just for homestay guests. Sit a spell and have a great conversation with the owners as well while there!

This is an amiable, small, simple, low-key place to stay. What makes it different are the peacefulness, beautiful views and helpful staff. It's a 5 minute walk from the road, up a hill, so it's remote from any external hassle. Your outside garden look down over a valley of terraced rice fields and distant forests. The beautiful water garden is only 10 mins away down a steep hillside track. It's a bit spartan; the rooms have plenty of space inside, and a fan, but not much else. Mine normally had cold showers, but in Bali that's not such an issue. The food too is basic, but sometimes could be surprisingly tasty. And the people are nice, and they're always there for you. It won't suit everybody, but if you just want to relax and read and go walking, it's a great place.

This is a nice, little, family-run home stay. The room was very nice and very clean. This is where we had our best night of sleep in a long time. The view you wake up to is to die for! The food is good and homemade (probably the best Balinese food we've had on Bali) and you can enjoy it with the view over the rice field and the mountain. It's very close to Tirta Gangga, where you'll also be able to rent scooters or book a tour for going to Lempuyang. However, you need to be fit as the trail has a steep descent. It is not handicap-friendly.

We stayed at this homestay for one night. It offers a stunning view of the rice fields, which are only a short hike away, and it is strongly recommended to stroll through the rice fields. The water palace is also accessible on foot. They have a small menu that you may choose from in the evening and it was very tasty. The lodging is very basic, but there is hot water. You must bring your own mosquito net. We also had a massage outside of our room with a view of the rice fields. It was done by this old man from the village and was a fun experience.

The water palace is in a great location, 10 minutes walk from the water palace on a mountainous footpath, but also by road. Dinner was good and reasonable, breakfast was basic. Rooms were basic but bed comfortable with mosquito net. Most rooms have terraces with chairs and sun loungers and the most amazing view.

A basic homestay space is to be expected. Everything works fine and is clean but don't expect too much this is a homestay. Friendly owner with a good kitchen. I must walk through the rice fields! It's amazing. We got our guide from the area who was very knowledgeable. He also organized that we can work in the rice fields to get the real idea.

The homestay's location is amid rice fields and forests, and all the rooms 1 to 3 offer the most spectacular views. Gene and his family were friendly people. The food was delicious! Much more authentic than other homestay dishes we have tried. Balinese chicken stew was aromatic and savory. Excellent spring rolls. Breakfast is included in the price and was once more outstanding. We enjoyed it and always felt full past lunch! The rough guide stated that the cost per night was $150 for a double bed, but it was $1, 300, 00, so be advised. The washing service was alone, so we got wet clothes back, but otherwise a fantastic homestay with genuinely lovely surroundings and peace is suggested! While we were there, we rode bungling biking in the town center of Tirtagangga next to Rasawrung for 25 km. Mountain biking is great, but some of the off-road sections may be challenging if you don't have mountain biking experience.

Yes, the view is postcard-perfect, but you will see similar views in many locations as you travel to this location from other parts of Bali. Otherwise, this place is extremely basic, meaning beds with no other furniture on the floor, suitcases and clothes on the floor, overpriced, skimpy breakfast, and bad food. Although superficially friendly, the owner will try to pound you for any service you request. My most lasting memory is the absurd bathroom, which was the size of a tiny bedroom, with a tiny hand basin hanging from the wall at one end, the tap so close to the wall that it was difficult to turn, at the far end a toilet and over the toilet a shower head, with large empty space back to the hand basin. There was not even an inch of shelf or counter to put toiletries, all surfaced in various designs of deep aqua tiles except for the little glass block window through which a weak light filtered in. A shower head with only hot, a tap with cold, and a bucket to mix the two. Add a rough cot and it would serve as a perfect prison cell. Much better options down near the water palace.

When we arrived at Pondok Batur Indah we were told that they had not received payment from us, despite us having multiple pieces of evidence that we had paid. Instead of sorting this problem out themselves, I had to spend an hour getting hold of hotels.com for them to ring the guesthouse to say we had paid. During this time they offered us tea, which we were then billed for. Not a good start. Despite the rocky start, the views from the rooms are lovely- looking over rice terraces, it is a 10 minute walk to Tirta Gangga, and they can arrange a driver to other places of interest for a charge. Restaurant on site and free breakfast.
