Hide (owner) is such a kind and compassionate person. On arrival he gave us fruit and there were many snacks provided in the rooms. Many of the other days he would give us more fruit and then a lovely gift when we left. Every day he was so helpful in removing all the snow from our vehicle before we left for the ski fields. Hide is what makes this hotel such a pleasant place to stay. Thanks Hide, we loved staying with you!

If you are a visitor to Japan, this place is not very close. This place is very useful. The owner's lady was very kind and explains everything very well. But the lady didn't speak much English and will probably help if you can learn a little Japanese. Please keep in mind that the facilities are very basic, with everything like towels, fans and heating as an extra charge.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Just a short walk from the bus stop on Nishiyama's walk, but far from downtown. Because of the small boiler, the hot water supply was limited. It's a owners-run hostel so the reception service was limited.

To save money, we chose the modest hotel Koizumi. We had read the reviews and were aware of the costs associated with using the heater. One must bring the futon back to the loft in the morning, pay for towels and toothbrushes if you don't have one, the owner's language is rather limited, etc., all are acceptable. We had little expectation of spending the money on a delicious meal for 14,00 yen each night. The futon and cushions are fantastically comfy and exceed our expectations. The heater has enough heat to warm up the room. On arrival, the proprietor also welcomed us with a few local snacks and bottled water. She gave us some glasses so we could use the kettle in the room. Room space is fairly small. Fits two futons in the loft and two in the living room. There is literally no space to walk around and one has to dance around to get through if we open suitcases on the floor. The toilet and bathroom are distinct. The bathroom floor is always wet because there is no curtain in it. There are odd regulations about no shower after 11 p.m., not that we shower that late anyway. We also removed the futon and blankets as the lady requested to make it easier for her, but I was disappointed that since our full waste basket was still full, I would have done it at the end of our stay only.

My feeling is that this place is better if you get a room with a nice bathroom. There are more than enough beds in the room and comfortable bed. The water pressure is low and it does not flush. The room is clean and comfortable. A very interesting trail with very dramatic seismic activity nearby but nothing happens while we are there. I have to say that Mars Koizumi is a lovely lady who has a great ability to communicate effectively even though we speak in different languages. But I wish I had accepted her offer to show us the fireworks display that night, but we were quite tired after a full day of cycling.

As nice as the owner and family are, I can't really recommend this place. Location is 2km out of town so you must have a car. Location is very quiet at night but in the hotel room you can hear water running from toilets etc in other rooms and people walking on the floor above. And I had some sort of tapping sound in my room early in the morning on the second night which made it hard to sleep. There is a fridge and hot water urn in the room, but no tea or coffee (lucky I had my own)and only paper cups to drink out of. I had the Japanese room and the futon was very comfortable. Air con was good as warm on day 1 and cool day 2 but I did have to ask for English instructions. Even though it's fairly cheap I wouldn't stay again.

We slept on the loft as we did not want to move the heavy futon down and I got bitten by bed bugs! Not worth the price and it's a 2km walk up and down slope to the lake area.
