On the one hand, it's really cool to be able to say that we stayed in a palace. We could easily tell one of the larger meeting rooms had been a place to entertain many guests, maybe even a ballroom. The courtyard behind the hotel is beautiful and inviting. The staff was helpful. Breakfast buffet was typical of European hotels and we found the variety of Dutch breads, cheeses, and sprinkles to be a nice touch. The position in the heart of town is unmatched. Our bed was comfortable as was the pillows. We like to sleep cold. They even provided a fan that we could use to keep the room cool and make some white noise on the other lovelyone needs to put a lot of money and love into this place. It is in desperate need of a major facelift. We stayed on the first floor and the carpeting in the hall and in our room was awful, sometimes right through to the floor. The carpeting in our room was a little better, but it was so bad I didn't want to walk barefoot on it. There was no safe in the room and because we only had an oldfashioned key, we carried everything of value everywhere we went. For quite some time I wondered if I just didn't have an adventurous spirit and needed to remember that perhaps standards in other parts of the world are different from what I am used to. And yet

I had a nice stay at this hotel, that was an upgrade from the previous one. The room is a bit old but there is noise from outside. The bed was beautiful and the jacuzzi was incredible. The room was so out of date, and they didn't even clean it all the time. Maybe the windows should be able to be more isolated.

Our stay at the Palais Stadhouderlijk was lovely. This historic location once served as a royal residence, but today, you can still find a royal ambiance from the era. The hotel is located in the heart of Leeuwarden, with all the charming shopping and commercial streets and canals close by. We reserved this weekend's Christmas package before the lockdown and are very glad we made no cancellations. The staff went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable, and they upgraded us to a lovely suite with a christmas tree in our lounge! We were presented with dinner in our room because it was impossible for us to dine in their renowned restaurants. The cuisine was delicious, and it wasn't too disappointing. We'll return and hopefully, everything will open again. Many thanks to the staff for making our Christmas so memorable.
