The building is not an excellent one. The marble floors are all cracked and the musty odor was very common to firstlook at. An old antiquated lift that is noisy and damp. Although the room was large, the window wouldnt open and the restroom was not equipped with a shower. There is plenty of tea and coffee in the room and every day, clean towels are required because there is no means to dry them otherwise. The lift was noisy at night as people opened and closed the metal gate and slamming the outer door shut. Avoid any accommodation near the lift. Breakfast was also excellent, and the location is perfect. The employees are extremely friendly and helpful. It's unfortunate that the structure needs a complete makeover.

As many have stated, the building's design is a little antiquated, but many of us are the same and it is part of the charm! Malcolm and the staff were friendly and professional. Breakfast was all you could ask for and more, because the service was table service, what more can you ask for during a holiday? And the bar was a nice addition in the evening. The mattress was softer than we have at home and the seagulls are very active around 4 in the morning, so it's not always a good night's sleep. The bathroom was decent, but the floor was extremely slick when wet. Again, something was not used too at home! As one other reviewer advised, avoid going to smuggler's restaurant even if you have thought to book others.

The towers were wrong. We stayed in the hotel for five nights. The pros great breakfast, lovely juices, freshly prepared breakfast arrived very quickly after ordering, lovely helpful staff. Beautiful and fresh bed linen. Towels are very good. The disadvantages are numerous. Outside the property is a disgrace. Instead of malcolm sitting at a laptop he should be out cleaning the outdoors and taking pride in his property. Steps never brushed, weeds everywhere, etc. Window? Never washed. Reasons are that the rooms were not serviced. Only on two days, the towel left out and Malcolm was told it had to be replaced, but no towels were left because they were still wet in the bag. On the second day, I asked for three towels, and one hand towel received two and one hand towels. The bed broke and was fixed, but other review seems to be a problem. Toilet leaking. Our car was parked most days, but we had to use the nearby car park, which was fine because we only paid 810 for the all-day and free overnight. Overall, a good stay, but I think malcolm should take the advice of the carlton opposite, who updates every year. A little something would be helpful as well as keeping everything clean every day. The boards outside indicating meals, etc.

I would without a doubt book this hotel again if we decide to visit the north coast in the future. We arrived a little early than check-in 1520, and Malcolm, the proprietor, welcomed us. He was happy for us to check in and went through the procedure with us in great detail, which I was relieved to learn they were extremely strict about and caring for all of their visitors. On first glances, the interior was thoroughly clean, and the bar was open. We brought a few items to our room, and they were all spotless. Yes, I agree with some reviews, it's a little tired, but for the price, I'm not complaining. The bed was very comfortable, we did take our own bedding following instructions in our conformation email, but so far, we only used our own pillows, the duvet is comfortable and pleasant. The breakfast was beautiful and a good size, with a wide variety. Malcolm was fantastic to chat to, giving us suggestions for our evening dinner since so many venues are booked well into august. We also had the pleasure of meeting Nina, who is both lovely and I would recommend this motel for its great price, cleanliness, and comfortable stay in Ilfracombe.
