Family-run hotel from 1912 with high ceilings and quiet rooms. Low-cost furnishings but comfortable beds. Great people behind the counter in a lobby with nice memorabilia decor. The downside is the civic center, which is overrun with street people. However, the property is close to grocery stores, a bart station and a 19 bus to fisherman's wharf. And the street people were not aggressive.

I loved this place. We reserved a front room overlooking Market Street with a private bathroom and absolutely loved it. It really can't be beat on price for such a central location right next to subway stn, bustrolley stops, and steps away from tourist sights and shopping. The hotel is a refreshing change from the bland, neutral bland blahnothingness of contemporary hotels. Instead, it is big on furniture and old-fashioned and that is what makes it special. The pace reminded me of the rooms in which movie characters land when they first arrive in the city. The room wasn't big, but it was clean and there is so much to do in the city that it only needs to sleep. There are lots of breakfast places close by. Ignore any bad reviews about safety the hotel is fine. The city has its own madness, homeless and crazies everywhere, not just the local area, so the hotel was a peaceful sanctuary.

We remained here for a week. We were aware that there were numerous homeless individuals close by. It had no flaws. We reserved a family room with two double beds and a private bathroom. The room was large and comfortable. Everything is dated, yet immaculately clean. The staff was excellent. extremely welcoming and useful. Despite the fact that the state of homelessness is enough to leave you in a dire state, no one harmed us. Every now and then, someone would ask for a dollar. They simply move on, much like in Rome, where you just have to move them away while clinging to your bag to prevent them from getting your pocket. To be completely honest, there are homeless people all around San Francisco. It is not the hotel's fault. The staff constantly assures you that you are safe and secure. The police presence at the corner of Market and ith is constant. There is almost always a police vehicle parked across the road. Apart from that, the market is frequently filled with non-homeless locals and tourists. To get there, take the bus straight to Haightashby. Take a subway straight to the airport or anywhere else. A sizable entire food market with hot food you can pick up for supper is located across the street. There is a communal fridge downstairs and our belongings were perfectly safe there. It takes
