Great location near Cullowhee, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Quiet setting and super friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again. Each room is a little different.

When you stay at the Balsam Mountain Inn you are staying in a historical restoration in progress. The rooms are clean and comfortable restored with period pieces. The bathrooms are small as the original Inn had communal bathrooms. The atmosphere is peaceful. Porch sitting is encouraged. There are no tvs but plenty of books and games on the main level which encourages getting to know other guests. The staff is very friendly and accommodating with looks of history to explain. The food and bar are exceptional. Since we discovered the Inn, it is our go to place to stay and this was our 4 stay. We are looking forward to many more as we visit the area several times a year. If you require 5-star, resort accommodations you will be disappointed. If you want to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, I highly recommend Balsam Mountain Inn

This place is an inn from the 1920's that lets you literally step back in time. The whole place feels like you're in a time period movie set. It is amazing how well kept the place is, especially compared with the old buildings in the surrounding town of Balsam. Seriously though, if you want the finest amenities of a modern hotel, this is not the place for you. But if you want to experience a place that time forgot to destroy and enjoy a peace and slower pace of life for a while, this is a true gem. From the real door keys to the water radiator heating, the claw foot bath tub, and the creaking hardwood floors, this place just transports you to a time when every guest was special and the world was simpler. The water is even supplied from a mountain spring. For couples, this is the perfect romantic getaway. You can sit on the porch and watch the trees sway in the wind or read a book in the library. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only a mile away. And don't worry, while the amenities are basic compared to modern hotels, the bed was very comfortable and the linens were good quality. Better than a lot of modern places I've stayed. I really can't speak highly enough of the staff or the place itself. We really did enjoy it tremendously.

Such a lovely, serene place! My goal was a calm and quiet trip with no stress, and I definitely found it here! So much history to the building as well, so it was neat to explore. Definitely recommend and will be back again in the future!

Clean, cute, little room. Enjoyed looking through pictures and library. Nice walk around the property with pup. Rug in pet room had to be rolled up and put away but otherwise nice room.

It is an historic hotel deep in the mountains so it does not offer amenities that many hotels would like a pool. That’s not necessary as it offers such beauty and tranquility along with a great breakfast, cafe and a bar. Sit on the 100 footlong porch and rock yourself happy.
