This was the first time being in a hostel, and I just want to say that it was safer than being in a hotel room somewhere else during a solo trip. The area wasn’t too bad, but I’m glad I had roommates that were nice as well. Whenever I’m in New Orleans again, I will book again

I love this hostel! With a southern home vibe, Site 61 is surprisingly clean and spacious. The building retains an antebellum feel but because it's recently renovated so you still get the modern comfort. My favorite part about this hostel is that the hallway has eight private bathrooms, so you have the toilet, the sink, and shower in each bathroom - there's virtually no way you won't find an unoccupied bathroom! The bed is super comfortable too, which is absolutely perfect for resting after a whole night of debauchery. The hostel's only potential downside is its somewhat sketchy neighborhood, but really, you should be hopping on and off your cab ride and enter the building anyway, so it's not like you'll be walking around outside too much. Oh yeah, it's only a 10 minute ride from French Quarter and the Garden District, so if you are a tourist in NOLA who don't want to splurge on hotels, Site 61 is your pick!

Site 61 Hostel was awesome! It opened only 7 months ago, so everything is practically new. The owner was so sweet and was very willing to give advice. The room we stayed in was a private two person room, but it had a pyramid bunk bed so it probably could've fit three comfortably. There were 6 private full baths (shower, toilets and sink) on the second floor so there was never a wait. My only complaint is that it wasn't in the best location, but it was within walking distance of the street car! There was street parking outside the hostel where we left our cars.

TLDR: Positive hostel experience, but at an average of $190/night for a private room during Jazz Fest, the extra $20-50 of a hotel room is worth it for the attached bathroom, additional amenities, and extra space. Pros: Beautiful restored building. Basic breakfast. Staff was helpful and other guests were friendly. Great AC, comfortable beds, and mostly very clean and quiet. Note that unless you arrive before 4-6 pm, you need to contact the property in advance to get contactless check-in instructions. Cons: Other reviews have commented on the type of neighborhood... The hostel is on a block that is indeed a bit sketchy, and it neighbors a junk yard and busy road (see pic). But you only need to walk a block to get to a scenic residential neighborhood. I did feel safe the whole time. Keep in mind that the private room is veryyy small. The door also didn't stay closed unless you locked it, which became annoying if one person stayed in the room while the other went to the bathroom. There were only 3 shared bathrooms on the hall, so there was sometimes a line, and they lacked a shelf to put a toiletry bag on. Mostly, given all the above, I found the hostel to be far too expensive for what you get, and I'd recommend finding a hotel instead.

Beautiful old house, with a variety of accommodation choices. My room was huge, if sparely furnished, with a comfortable bed and good linens. Communal kitchen available, but in NOLA why would you want to cook! Mid town area, easy access to public transport and a number of good restaurants within an easy walk. I had a great time.

We had a nice stay at the Hostel, everything looked as expected. We requested a late check in, which wasn’t a problem, just make sure when they send you the information, they include the door code, to get in!
