Flamingo Cat Ba Sea & Sand Resort

Flamingo Cat Ba Sea & Sand Resort opened in June 2026 on Cat Ba Island, Hai Phong, at the edge of Lan Ha Bay — four hundred islands, a hundred and thirty-nine sand beaches, and the karst that spills south out of Ha Long.

Sixty rooms and residences occupy the upper floors, 4 to 17, of three towers — Sea, Sand and Sun — inside the Flamingo Cat Ba complex. Sixty, where the neighbouring towers run to several hundred each: quieter pools, shorter lifts, one front desk and one team who know which room you are in. Every room opens onto its own balcony, over the bay or over the island's limestone hills.

THE BED. Every room has a 2.4-metre king — a third wider than a standard king — and it separates into two full-size single beds, 1.2 m each. One room, three ways: a couple, a family of four, or two friends or colleagues who each want their own bed. Most of the island cannot offer the third.

ROOMS. Deluxe at 33 m², Premium at 40 m², and a 65 m² one-bedroom Residence with a separate living room and a kitchen. Air conditioning, flat-screen television, free Wi-Fi, a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, mini bar, dining table and private balcony come as standard. Two guests as standard, four maximum.

RURIKO ONSEN. A Japanese onsen — separate men's and women's bathing, hot and cold jacuzzi, dry sauna and steam room. There is almost nothing else like it on Cat Ba. Open to resort guests, charged separately.

MÂY SKY WALK. The elevated walkway that links the three towers across levels 11 and 12, out over the trees and towards the bay. Free, and open whenever you want it — though the reason to set an alarm is sunrise.

EATING. Breakfast is served at Sun Restaurant on level 6, 06:00 to 10:00. Sea Restaurant cooks Vietnamese over Lan Ha Bay; Sand Restaurant and Lan Ha Restaurant sit higher up, and at the top on level 17 is Lan Ha Sky Bar, where the island watches the sun go down. Shell Pool Bar is beside the water on level 4, and Sand Bar & Cafe is on the sand itself.

WHAT COSTS NOTHING. The swimming pools. The beach. The fitness centre. Wi-Fi throughout. Daily housekeeping, luggage storage, the Mây Sky Walk, lifts to every guest floor, and reception around the clock.

WHAT IS CHARGED. Parking. Restaurants and bars. SEVA Spa, massage, Ruriko Onsen, sauna and jacuzzi. Kids club and karaoke. The resort's on-island shuttle. Listed here so that nothing surprises you at checkout.

ARRIVING. Check-in from 15:00 and — unusually for the island — the desk stays open until 02:00, which matters once the last ferry has gone and the cable car has stopped. Check-out is 11:00. Reception is in the Sea tower on level 4. Hanoi is three to four hours away; Cat Bi International Airport about 52 km, roughly an hour and a half. The Sun World cable car crosses from Cat Hai to Phu Long and is closed on Tuesdays; the last ferry of the day leaves around 17:00.

GOOD TO KNOW. Rooms are non-smoking; smoking is permitted on the balcony with the door closed. There are no extra beds and no cribs — a third and fourth guest share the existing bed, which is what the 2.4-metre king is for. No pets, except registered assistance dogs. Only the one-bedroom Residence has a kitchen; the other four categories do not.
