I had a good understanding of how this would have affected me because I had to purchase a double room and two breakfasts, and this information was readily available on application. And I also spent a modest 26 and a few pence for a double room and two breakfasts. I may now understand why the initial impressions are so terrible. Either no one at the reception, no one who speaks English at the front, or someone at the front who converses in French. Perhaps a sign of things to come. Fair enough, the room was a good example of everything. The walls are extremely paper thin, and that is one major critter. I am sure that the couple four rooms farther down breathing. Additionally, I can hear anything going on in the rooms in between that and around us. The breakfast was a cold platter and did what it needed for the price. I think it might be better than youd have expected for the amount paid? There were toast, croissants, pastries, cereal bars, fruit, cereal bars, yogurts, juices, tea, coffee, etc. Would I stay again? Yes possibly. We made reservations late and not much else seemed to be available. Arriving around 11 pm, I wasnt particularly interested in the amenities, and it was so affordable. Not absolutely terrible but basic limo.

As a motor trader, I must visit hotels all over the world. This wasn't the worst. Positives included a great heating system, a comfortable bed, good water pressure, and low costs at only 38 for a night with a bathroom! Negatives are that it's an old pub with a sign stuck on the side that has not been returned and smells like raw meat near the kitchen in the evenings not bad meat, but smells like butchers not sure why?, staff don't speak English and you can't safely ride the poorly laid floor in the hotel, the doors seem easy to break into, the floor in the rooms is not cleaned, the covers are like wearing a packet of crisps, not proper pillows, just sofa pillows, bathroom fittings are badly finished.

It is clean but basic, however lashings of hot water and lovely and warm. If you're expecting luxury, this isn't the place for you, however, if you want an honest, cheap, clean and warm place to rest your head for the night, then this is okay for just that.

The hotel is clean and warm, I chose it because of the price. I would think it's actually a Hostel rather than hotel. No evening meal and not many local eateries I found within walking distance. So I drove Continental breakfast was pre packaged. The bedroom was not cleaned during the day so sheets and towels not changed. It snowed overnight and the carpark was not salted so it was very slippery. Overall warm, clean but you get what you pay for.

The hotel has had a lot of money spent on it but the finish is bad so it looks shabby. The room had a shared toilet and bathroom, not clearly stated on booking. It was also a very long complicated walk from reception. We didn't eat breakfast there so I cannot say what this was like.

Although undergoing refurbishment, our room was clean and comfortable. Recommend a satnav to get to the address. Based in a old coal mining village, there didn't appear to be a lot to do locally, however, it is only 20 minutes from Durham which as an university city had many good places to eat and some visitor attractions.

Ive stayed here many times, although its mainly used as social housing ive not had any major problems before. However, my last visit will be my last. Due to someone smoking in a room the fire alarm went off twice which was annoying after a long day at work. On the second occasion, myself and other guests obviously went downstairs during the fire alarm. The man on reception, who spoke no English was obviously angrt with whoever was smoking. I was stood next to a door and he slammed the door at me causing an injury to my foot. No apology or even acknowledgement that anything happened. The other guests were appalled at what happened. If you stay here you will be treated like a social housing resident rather than a paying guest. There are better places to stay, i suggest the village inn, murton which is a 10 minute drive from here or head to durham city centre.
