I thought Id go a little premium from Villa Kingham, which was already very good, so I booked two nights at this hotel via Pavoda. What a massive disappointment. The owner has taken over this hotel. He is a very decent guy, and I am sorry I have to write this very poor review. I spoke honestly to the owner, and I suggested selling the place as it is in need of renovation, and clearly there are no funds to do that. I slept one night, it was okay, quiet enough, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was two boiled eggs and a piece of hard french bread with jam and butter. It was a bit downmarket. Its a hotel that used to be decaying and falling. A fellow traveler said he stayed here several years ago when it was in better repair and the standard it was supposed to be. I went into town and found a guest house with equal comfort for less than a third of the price, so cheap in fact, so convenient, so I didnt stay the second night at Villa Ban Lao, rather accepted the loss and went for a better experience.

The breakfast is buffet-style, with a poor selection. The wifi only works well at the reception, but there are plenty of comfortable seats to choose from. The location is close to the bus station and the front desk, this is a very busy and therefore noisy area in any hotel. The shower was lukewarm, and the water pressure has been a trickle on each of the two days I stayed here. The room looked very dark even with the curtains on and the lights on in full daylight.
