The Am Hotel in Edinburgh is not the typical hotel design. The rooms were immaculately clean, the bed very comfortable, and a great shower. However, there are no elevators and no air conditioning, the lack of ac is typical of the area as the temperatures are not usually so hot that air is required. The location is not great, but this is within walking distance to the Royal Mile. All things considered, I was in Edinburgh during a heat wave, so I had to keep the windows open as floors 25 were stifling. These rooms have windows that face the loading dock and the very close buildings. As a working student housing area in a very busy part of the city, there are constant noise issues with delivery vehicles and street noise, so rest was difficult to come by in those circumstances. So if you are looking for a clean room and shower near the royal mile, with a good breakfast, don't worry about lifts or noise. You might consider staying the 135 night it is in the middle of a large city for the am hotel. If your idea of a hotel includes amenities not covered at Am.. The premiere inn is a little farther as a walk, but will have elevators, ac, and very few concerns about street noise. And it is a little less expensive.

We spent 3 nights in the heart of Edinburgh, so it was so comfortable to sleep, the shower was good, and the breakfast was delicious, which set us up well for a day of exploring Edinburgh. The hotel is close to the old town but in a quiet area, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

If you want a basic hotel on the outst of the old town, this is ideal very much in the student area, so quite noisy outside at night despite being in a back street The reception is in a different building away from the rooms and is not manned so be prepared to wait for them to come after you call them. The block with rooms is a short walk, there are 4 floors and no elevators! The rooms are small due to the shape of her roof, so if your tall, getting into the bed under the roof is challenging and the room is very hot! But it's clean bed and comfortable, and the room supplied with toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities. No maid service, so I'm so disappointed no one was there and provided clean towels during my stay. Breakfast was included but we didn't have it as there were so many nice coffee shops to try around town.

We stayed here one night to see Tom Jones and do some of the fringe. Despite being rushed off her feet, the girl who served us breakfast was excellent and extremely pleasant. The room is in another building, about a 30 second walk from the front desk. Besides that, this is the ideal location for an overnight stay, no lift or air conditioning, and another chair in the room would be helpful. The room was tiny but clean and the bed was comfortable.
