Newton Hall is a beautiful building with a truly stunning interior. We stayed in Calla Olivera, one of the courtyard rooms, and the décor was lovely. The bed was extremely comfortable, with cosy pillows and a warm duvet, and we appreciated the thoughtful complimentary amenities such as coffee, water, biscuits, chocolate, and the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided. However, there were a few areas that impacted our overall experience. The room itself felt a little tired, with flickering spotlights, and it wasn’t as clean as we would have expected — the bath still had residue from previous use. The most significant issue, though, was the temperature. The room was very cold, with the heating not making much difference. The bathroom, in particular, had freezing slate tiles, a noticeable draught from the window, and the radiator didn’t seem to be turned up enough. I appreciate that it was exceptionally cold outside (around -7°C), which is exactly why having a warm, welcoming room would have made such a difference. After returning from a five-hour walk, we were really looking forward to warming up with a hot bath, but being welcomed back to such a cold room was disappointing. I imagine the room would be absolutely beautiful in summer, but during colder months, ensuring adequate warmth would greatly improve the guest experience.

We weren’t in the room we booked. We were told there was no bar on site, there was. The electricity went off through the whole of the village so there was nowhere to get food or drink. No provisions were offered and we were unable to book anything to our room. I’m not sure how the rest of the guest faired who were stopping in the main hall itself. For the cost of the room I would have thought out of curtesy we would have been offered soft drinks or something from the on site kitchen that didn’t require cooking. I'm aware the Hall is mainly used for weddings but as no wedding was on, on the Sunday I would assume that services would have been offered as paying guests. It would also be a curtesy to inform guests who are booking spare rooms not part of a wedding party that there are events happening, it was rather noisy. Overall it’s a beautiful place and setting with fantastic access the beaches but we did feel let down by the issues above.

The room was lovely and quirky, with some nice touches. Staff were lovely and helpful. Area has limited dining options, mostly the pub down the road and if you don’t book it’s hard to find an alternative without driving. No coffee shops or cafes for breakfast. Also wasn’t made aware that this is a wedding venue, which meant you had limited access to the main hall and the bar etc.
