I stayed for two nights and it was so peaceful. I can't say enough good things about this place. It was a wonderful experience. I stayed in a modern room that still embodied old tradition features like the tatami mat and the buckwheat pillow, however, it had an air conditioner, which was really nice. It was also a non-smoking space. Make sure you adhere to the temple regulations that you will be required to follow. In the room, there is a yakuza robe. I had to google it because I didn't know how to tie one on. There is a common bathroom in various rooms, which is a worry. 5. Bath time is present, and this will change depending on how crowded the temple is with other lodgers. It's great to take a hot bath, which follows the japanese bath house rules. 6. By rules, there is light out. From what I remember, it was around a 7:30 or a.m. 7. There will be no photos taken during prayer time.

Our group stayed at Fumonin as part of a group of 8. Everyone in our group enjoyed their rooms with much appreciated heating in mid-November. We particularly liked our dinner and breakfast which were served to our group in a private tatamimat room with low chairs. Most of our group appreciated western beds in a Japanese style room with views of the lovely garden. One of us stayed in a large tatamimat room with futons and a shared bathroom down the hall. It was a little inconvenient but not a big deal for one night. All of the staff members we encountered were friendly and welcoming, including the priest who led the morning prayer service and explained some of the Buddhist symbols in the sanctuary.

I would definitely return. Then there are the breakfast options that were quite delicious, and dinner and breakfast were served in a communal area. I had a little doubt before arriving at Fumonin after reading previous reviews. Checking allowed us to leave our bags at the office as we toured Koyasan city, which was close to the city's bike rental center and bus stops. Excellent location, close to town and bike rental center. We stayed in a new wing that was divided into two sections and provided shared toilets and a hot tub for women. Although there were additional mattresses available for those who needed more comfort, the futons were comfortable. The family room we had was incredibly roomy and comfortably accommodated five adults. The furnishings and rooms were meticulously cleaned, and we couldn't find anything wrong with them. Breakfast and dinner were served in a communal room and were very lovelyly presented and substantial. There was a restaurant in town above a souvenir shop where meat and seafood dishes were offered for a reasonable price for non-vegans. Remember to always be mindful that food places close early. Our hosts were attentive and gracious at all times, yet not intrusive. And yes, early morning prayers at 6 am are definitely worthwhile.

To be honest, I stayed in Fumentin and it was a pretty normal experience. If you have never stayed in a traditional type setting, this may be a great experience, but for a seasoned traveler, this was pretty average. The rooms are modern and clean, with a simple tatami, it's awful on your back, so make sure to use some of the spare mattresses in the closet to help block the hard floor. There are curfew rules and check in you can only check in after 3 am and must check out by 9 am, even your bathing times are set and you cannot use the bathroom shower in the morning. The prayer time is scheduled, but despite it being in a historic building, I didn't get the spiritual vibe there. There is a nice garden in a corner of the building but you can't go there. The food was vegetarian, but it all tasted the same. After a wall, it got tiring and almost tasted like water and daichi broth. Given what I paid for the room, $ 200 usd per night, I would look for other accommodations, but it wasn't up to par for me, and I wouldn't return.

The location is great, and the hotel is clean and peaceful. There are a lot of rules that should be respected if the monastery was operating, for example, breakfast at 7.10, dinner at 5.30 pm, and breakfast at 7.10. This isn't the place for you if you want to spend the night in a seminary. The inside is a century hotel with lifts, while the exterior is spectacular. The room we reserved was non-smoking. In fact, there was a smoking area in the hallway about 30 feet from our room. During the night, our room smelled of smoke because young man smoked cigarettes after cigarettes. At all, the food is average. The tempura was warm the first night, making it greasy.
