The plaza hotel is a stylish, clean hotel situated strategically on a hill with commanding views of Kesennuma harbour. You can access the roof, where you can get a 360 degree view that is really impressive. We were given a beautiful room on the top floor. Although one reviewer stated that it did not smell like cigarette smoke, I can guess that we were lucky. The staff is friendly enough, and even if they don't appear to speak very much English, you can probably make yourself understood. Visitors should utilize the natural hot spring bath. There is an indoor and outdoor bath, both with excellent views of the sea, though some shrubs make them obscure them. The water is very salty. The only meal we had at the hotel was breakfast. The food was fresh and plentiful, with both western and Japanese cuisine available. It was a buffet-style dining room on an industrial scale.

I think this could be the big hotel in Kesennuma city because I didn't see other big hotels nearby. It has a very good view of the beautiful Kesennuma port. This is a small town and is undergoing reconstruction since the 311 th tsunami, but this hotel was not damaged during that event because of it's location. This room is quite large compared to most Japanese hotels. I had a very comfortable and easy night over there.

The plaza hotel in Keennuma is one of the few accommodation options in Keennuma because many traditional inns were washed away by the recent tsunami. It's an older building, and though the lobby has recently seen some renovations, the hotel still feels dated. Please be aware that the term nonsmoking doesn't really exist outside of the major Japanese cities. The hallways of this hotel smell strongly of smoke, and our nonsmoking room was probably the least smokey. The window did open a bit, so it wasn't generally a problem, but those who are extremely averse to smoking might want to think twice. There are two types of rooms in this hotel, Japanese and western. The Japanese rooms are wellwired, and the lobby has a fairly patchy wifi. While we were given a Japanese room, the western one had two double beds and a very tiny bathroom. I was unable to see any of the Japanese rooms, but it was reportedly have futonstyle bedding and bigger bathrooms. The buffet breakfast has a variety of choices, including Japanese foods and western fare like yogurt, sausages, and eggs. Staff generally do not speak English, which is not a problem for my wife and I since we speak Japanese, but if you need transportation, they will be happy to call a nearby taxi stand for you and a

I like this place. I have a lovely view of the ocean from the window to make the eyes chill. The breakfast is tasty, as a buffet, with first-rate service. The decoration is beautiful and the setting is natural. The lobby is suitable for meeting and waiting. Very well done!

I wouldn't hesitate to return to Kesennuma. But this hotel must have been a decade ago, and it appears to have been through tough times. Quite a bit of the delayed maintenance must have begun before the tsunami for the tsunami to be this terrible. Expect not to be treated with the care you would discover in other parts of Japan. Presumably, no English is spoken, and this is the only hotel we stayed in that didn't offer information in English about meals, etc., when we checked in. But, the few staff members they do have are all very accommodating and do their best to communicate. I have never had a problem dealing with the front desk, and there was a particular woman who took excellent care of us. You must take a taxi from or to the hotel, but once there, you can walk around the harbor area without any problem. The hotel is located on a hill, but it has an elevator that brings you down to the street. There are several closed lounges and eateries in the hotel. It could be that they open them for special occasions or large tour groups, but I would not depend on it. It was quite an adventure, but if you are squeamish, you might want to skip the meal bundle and order something from the menu instead.
