Liked hotel and helpful staff. Nothing immediately local but frequent local buses which run til 8.30/9pm back take you to Sandakan centre (RMS .70) where you can get good selection of foods and drinks. Lots of shopping malls. Sepilok(Orangutans and Honeybears) Labuk(Proboscis monkeys) Australian war memorial and Heritage trail were good. Only waste of time and money was Gomantong Bat caves. 4hrs from Sandakan, my camera could not get anything due to it's great size and darkness. Maybe nighttime from nearer stopover would be better. Next to hotel is a Ten pin bowling alley where multi national food is available until 10. Very handy. Can't hear it from hotel. I booked 6 nights but 4 would be enough if sights were more efficiently managed. No complaints with hotel.

Really good standard of accommodation and service at this price. But, the flask of hot water, although welcome, was no substitute for a kettle in the room!

With 4 friends, I spent a week there. Despite the fact that I was only booking a deluxe room, it was clean and spacious. Just the air conditioner did not work well and was dated. I prefer that the memorial stuffs are rather good, but the wifi doesn't work. But the water supply is quite subpar and yellow. Every day, no fresh water is provided. Friendly employees and a few good places to eat chinese food near to your room.

This hotel is exactly what they advertise, it is an excellent, spotless place where everything works and everyone works with a smile. We went there twice and will return. We prefer Sandman to Kota Kinubaru ok because the latter seems to be too big and is becoming a tourist trap.

I reserved the hotel in Australia and the distance between the airport and the hotel was a set mro. I inquired with the driver afterwards about getting to Sepilok, where the orang tans are located. We finally decided on a price of mr 130 to take us to the rehabilitation center, wait for us to observe the feeding, and tour the war memorial to the australians and british who died on the Sandman death march in 1945. The rama hotel is very simple and faces a major road that we thought might have been noisy but it wasnt. We easily entered town because it is located at the end of the old part of Sandman city. All of the eateries, bars, and entertainment spaces are provided in this newly constructed area. The deluxe double cost about mro with air conditioning, a cable to and a comfortable bed. Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

We stayed at Hotel Rama in Sandman for 3 nights when we went on a river safari to Kinabatangan and to Turtle Island. We have 2 boys aged 7 and 9, and we were very comfortable in a family room with 2 double beds for only rm 95 a night. The staff were efficient and cheerfully stored our excess gear when we went on small side trips. The room was spacious, clean, cool, and had views of the bay. With my taxi ride or ringgit on regular Japan Leila local buses, it is simple to get into town. No pool, etc, but if you want a clean, safe bed for the night, it was great. Would stay again and could recommend it. No restaurant available, but the good Chinese media koi restaurant across the street in the shopblock that does good local food for a few rights per dinner. There are also convenient atms across the street near the restaurant.

The air con was not cold and we had to request for a change of room. Internet was slow. Overall the room was clean and comfortable but I saw a cockroach in the room
