The owners of this little gem have managed to combine true hospitality with excellent Thai food, comfortable accommodation, a delightful garden and sparkling swimming pool.
Located in the Pa Miang district, about 5 km off the main highway 118, the resort provides a comfortable base for local walking/biking tours or trips further afield with a car - this is a lovely area to explore, with scenic mountain views, hot springs, valleys and waterfalls. It also makes a useful very pleasant overnight stop for travellers not wishing to travel all the way into the Chiang Mai city traffic.
There is a particularly nice walk/bike ride to enjoy if you turn right on leaving the hotel and follow signs to the 'Gobo Resort' which you will pass on the way. (nice views if you go up to visit it) This route takes you along a narrow mostly tree-shaded country lane bordered by farmland, cow fields and mountain views for about 2 km. It ends at the entrance to a Childrens Home (which you can also visit)
Proceeding further on about 200 m brings you out on a main road. Turning right here will take you back to the resort, but it is more pleasant to return the way you came - you will be lucky to see a single vehicle on this.It is a mostly concrete surface except for a dirt road section at the end. Early morning or before sunset is the most pleasant time to do this. If you turn left leaving Monn Phu Phrai there is a small village shop on the left, beyond that, a nice little temple by the river.
Rooms are simply furnished with everything needed for a comfortable stay including satellite television and wI-fi. The gardens are a treat to wander around in, lovingly tended, and a credit to their owners.
If you enjoy countryside, natural beauty, peace and quiet away from commercialised tourist resorts, this would be an excellent choice for a few days, or even longer.
