Gambir Station: All You Need to Know
Previously known as Weltevreden Station and Batavia Koningsplein Station, Gambir Station is a major train station located at Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur No. 1 and is close to Jakarta’s iconic monument, Monas. The station dates its establishment back to 1871, though none of the original structure stands today, as it was renovated to accommodate flyover lanes and increased traffic. Today, Gambir Station only serves intercity passenger trains ranging from economy to executive class heading to major destinations throughout Java Island. Local commuter trains are served by nearby stations such as Juanda Station and Manggarai Station instead.
The station layout consists of three floors, with the first and second floors dedicated to ticketing and waiting areas with shops respectively. Facilities found inside include convenience stores, fast food restaurants, a VIP lounge, a hotel (Rail Transit Suite), ATMs, and more. There are also many ways to get to and from the station, namely via buses (Transjakarta and DAMRI), microbuses, taxis, and online ride-hailing services. Those who’d like to immediately head to Gambir Station from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport can do so by taking a DAMRI bus from the airport.
