About Jatinegara Station
Jatinegara Station is a large Type A train station located on the border of Matraman and Jatinegara Districts. Meanwhile, the exact location of Jatinegara Station is in Pisangan Baru Village, Matraman District, East Jakarta City. Jatinegara Station, which is located at a height of approximately 16 meters, is managed by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area I Jakarta.
Please note, Jatinegara Station is one of the five main stations in DKI Jakarta Province. Jatinegara Station also connects three train lines which are considered busy, namely Manggarai, Cikarang and Pasar Senen. Apart from that, one of the East Jakarta stations also carries various long-distance trains to destinations in various cities on the island of Java.
Jatinegara Station is a cultural heritage that has been registered with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism with registration number RNCB.19990112.02.000503 based on Minister of Culture and Tourism Regulation Number: PM.13/PW.007/MKP/05 and Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 011/M/1999.
History of Jatinegara Station
Meester Cornelis Station was inaugurated by a private railway company called Bataviaasche Ooster Spoorweg Maatschappij (BOSM) on March 31 1887. At that time, the inauguration was carried out together with the opening of the Batavia (Jakarta)-Meester Cornelis (Jatinegara)-Bekasi railway network.
In its continuity, the train network was purchased by the state railway company Staatssporwegen (SS) in 1889. Jatinegara Station, formerly known as Station Meester Cornelis, built on 15 October 1909 during the Dutch East Indies.
This station was originally designed as a large station that would be the main gateway to Jakarta from cities to the east. From 2018 to 2020, Jatinegara Station underwent major renovations to increase station capacity, facilities and security.
This renovation includes the addition of new buildings, improved passenger facilities, and modernization of station infrastructure to meet better rail transportation standards.
