If i could give the service an extra star, i would. Staying at ryokan gioon sano was a pleasure. The location is fantastic, it is very close to most of the attractions in eastern kyoto. The rooms were luxurious and very comfortable we slept like logs each night of our stay, and the hosts were excellent. The rooms were traditional tatami or futon style, with ample air conditioning during the hot summer. By the end of our stay, we didnt want to leave. The hosts made sure we were well fed and well taken care of each day, always filling our room with snacks and fresh fruits throughout the day. And even went the extra mile to get us a small souvenir from a geisha. The owner of the ryokan is also a car buff, he has a nismo gtr that he proudly showed me. And they also have two adorable floof dogs!.

I will definitely be returning! 100 out of 100 for the extremely kind hosts who brought our ski bags and us to the kyoto station, the delicious daily snacks, the maiko show, the location, and the accommodations, wow, amazing, comfortable futon beds.

The location of the ryokan is also very good. We were very lucky to find this gem. The rooms are very spacious, impeccably clean and comfortable, and the temperature is perfect. The ladies at the reception were very helpful and friendly. We also met the owner and his beautiful, calm and friendly dogs. We couldnt have had a better experience. Thank you!.

From the moment we arrived at kyokan gioon Sano in kyoto, we were greeted with a strong sense of welcome. The owners, with their genuine smiles and warmth, made our long journey from tokyo melt away, especially with their gesture of providing a revitalizing matcha tea. Their consideration extended to every detail, from the complimentary selection of snacks in our immaculate room to the unforgettable private event with a geisha. If ten stars were an option, they would have it. To the gracious owners, amigato gozaimasu! And dont worry about the dogs, they are playful and adorable golden retriever dogs. Their energy and joy added a unique charm to our experience.

The best choice we made for our first trip to japan was to stay in a ryokan. Our hosts greeted us with tea ceremonies and made us feel like family. The location is perfect, close to the famous kyoto temple. The ryokan also hosted a maiko presentation where we got to know other ryokan guests. My japanese is basically nonexistent, but i was able to get everything i needed from our hosts. I would recommend this stay to anyone. It was a very special place.

The rooms are beautiful, the location is perfect, and the people who run the ryokan are the most beautiful people we met during our trip to japan. I will be back soon to reexperience this place. Best place ive ever stayed. We didnt stay on one of gaikosan nights, but it didnt matter.

My 19yearold daughter and 11yearold son adored everything about this place! The hosts were absolutely stunning, providing us with delicious food, welcoming us warmly each time we returned, bathrobes, breathtaking views, gorgeous dogs, and the best location. The rooms were spacious. We only stayed for two nights, but we wish we had stayed longer. The location is very close to nishiki markets, tea ceremonies, ninja samurai museum, and a ton of temples. The best place to stay when visiting japan.

I would definitely choose this ryokan for my next trip. If you go to kyoto, definitely consider this place. The location is unbeatable, the rooms are great, and especially the hospitality! They are so friendly and helpful. It feels like you are part of the family.

Secara keseluruhan, tempat ini bagus untuk menginap dan dijaga dengan sangat baik! Pengalaman yang benar-benar luar biasa! Kamar untuk 4 orang luas, futon nyaman, ruang tamu memiliki semua yang Anda butuhkan, AC di kamar tidur dan satu lagi di ruang tamu, tuan rumah yang sangat baik dan membantu, dan lokasi yang bagus. Buah dan camilan dibawa ke kamar setiap hari! Kami memiliki kesempatan luar biasa untuk menonton pertunjukan Maiko! Dan tanpa biaya tambahan untuk pengalaman unik ini! Dan tuan rumah mencuci pakaian kami saat kami berjalan-jalan!

The traditional rooms are spacious and comfortable with both a bedroom and sitting area. There were 2 ac units in our room which was great when needed. The hosts are great. They delivered food throughout the stay, assisted us with laundry and arranged a cab to the station when we needed it. The location is great for sightseeing on foot, as we used the jr pass it was a 30 minute walk to the nearest jr station.

The owner, staff, and dogs are all excellent, and the hotel itself is lovely. The owner is a fast car enthusiast who shared his love of his gtr with my gtr loving husband. We even got to see a maiko performance in person, which was an unforgettable experience. It is located in the center of gion on a street that is perfect for exploring. Just stay here, you wont regret it!.

Located in the higashiyama area, it is within walking distance of yasaka shrine, kiyomizu temple, ninnizaka sannzaka kdaiji temple, hanamikoji, maruyama park, and chion-in temple. The floors also provide free snacks and small cups of instant noodles. Most of the service staff appear to be over 70 with attitudes. Very polite and greeted with a smile when entering and leaving.

We had a wonderful stay here. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was very nice and big enough for our family of four (2 adults, 2 teenagers). Breakfast is not included, but daily fresh fruit and bread are brought to your room. We found this to be enough for breakfast. There is also a small fridge if needed for yogurt etc. The location is very central and it is easy to get to the train station and walk to many attractions. They do have 2 dogs who are very quiet but are like ambassadors for the hotel. They greet you when you come in and even helped to get us packed into our taxi when we left. The hotel also hosted a maiko one evening which was a highlight for all of us. It was well attended by other guests. We learned about maiko culture and were able to ask questions about maiko. She also danced and led the group in a few games. Highly recommend for a stay in kyoto.

Next time we visit japan, we will most certainly return. We had a great time at the gion sano! The hosts are incredibly kind and friendly, offering daily treats like fruit, cakes, sandwiches, and endless photo ops with their wellbehaved dogs. The room was large, spotless, and exactly as described. We had a great time singing karaoke and conversing with the hosts.

I was a little nervous because this was my first trip to japan and i was traveling alone. But im really happy that i had never been to kyokan ryokan before. Tatami mats are used in the traditional style of the rooms. They are tidy, cozy, and have amenities like a tv, air conditioning, minirefrigerators, tea kettles, and safes in the room. When you are out exploring kyokan, the staff will clean your room every day. When you return, fresh bedding and treats will be left. The ryokan is close to many restaurants and shrines, a 10minute walk to the gion station, and a 15minute drive / 35minute walk to kyokan station. Things are easily accessible, and you are in the heart of the action! The owner and his staff are what really differentiated this ryokan for me! They are incredibly kind, generous, and lively! I knew a little conversational japanese, which was helpful, but even if you dont, they have staff members who speak english. The owner is fantastic, and during our six nights here, we became close friends. During the night, several visitors gather in the lobby with the owner and staff and engage in fun activities like karaoke and games. I had such a great time meeting new people from all over the world visiting japan. P. S. The ryokan has two dogs, and they are the sweetest!.

The attention to detail, the kindness of the owners and staff, and being able to meet a maiko, the cute dogs, made this a truly wonderful place. They even did my laundry for me. I highly recommend it if you stay in kyoto!.

I had an amazing stay and experience at this beautiful ryokan. The owners and staff are very friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The rooms are very clean and i love the setup. The beds are very comfortable. I really appreciated all the kindness and hospitality during our stay. They have two handsome and calm dogs that we absolutely love! We had a very nice maiko performance one night. The location is perfect in gion and within walking distance of many attractions and shopping. Very close to public transport too. Overall we had a great stay here and will definitely be back to stay here next time we are in kyoto.

The best value and overall experience in kyokan i have ever had! Above and beyond service and ryokan experience! I just checked out after a fournight stay and wanted to cry, hug our hosts, and tell them we will be back soon. I dont remember feeling like this after a hotel or airbnb stay or 3 months of traveling. This is my second time in kyokan and i can honestly say that i have had a genuine ryokan stay a maiko show, nightly returns to freshly cleaned rooms, homecooked / prepared items, ample space.

Recommended for anyone looking to experience a traditional japanese hotel. The list of amenities includes spacious tatami rooms, maiko performances with interactive games depending on the week or day of month?, ideal location for public transit, easy walking to main attractions, lovely golden retriever staff, and other amenities such as free fruit, snacks and drinks. Will definitely book again.
