We just returned from four nights at this Roman, and we highly recommend it. Its a large place, popular with Japanese families, and reasonably priced for a Roman. The staff is cordial, helpful, and fluent in English. The Roman offers a free ferry to and from yasumoto, but if you are coming by public transportation from takayama you must take the yasumoto bus and go off at stop Kid Nakanoyu. It's rather easy because the buses have announcements in English. Nakanoyu bus stop appears to be in the middle of nowhere, but there is a tiny hut manned by a man who will phone the roman to request a free pickup. Funnily enough, a cave onset that is owned by the inn is right next to the hut. You can reserve a half-hour slot with transportation to and from the roman. Its a distinctly odd experience! Breakfast starts at 7 am and is either 7 or AM, and dinner is at 6 pm. Each day the menu changes according to the day of your stay, so those at the next table may eat the day 3 menu while you are being served the day 2. On our last evening, everything we had was fresh and delicious, with lots of fish, pickles, and hide beef. There are two minibus trips to Kamikochi

This house has an attractive and spacious lobby area with many flowers that I believe the owner himself is proud of. I think the old uncle was interested in displaying the mountain view from the lobby windows and the plants he grew. The room is just good for two people and has a private toilet. If you want to take a shower, you must do it immediately. This Roman also provides free shuttle service to the Kamikochi bus terminal in the morning. On your return journey, take bus 7 to 770 yen to nakanoyu bus stop, a booth with an elderly man to assist you. Call for the Roman to pick you up. Back yard also has a trail that leads to the trailhead for Mount Take. We done a small portion of this on the morning of check out. We might return to trek Mount Take!.

I stayed here for two nights in the middle of February and there appeared to be a lot of visitors going on snowshoe hiking through the kama tunnel. We didn't arrive with the right kind of boots so missed out. We were helpfully advised in advance to hire a kwd if driving, because the mountain pass and abo pass are closed in winter to all except hotel guests and main road staff. The view of the mountains is amazing in this location. On a clear day, the large windows in the foyer provide a stunning panorama. Our twin room was considerably smaller than we were used to in a roman, but the mountain view made up for it. No guarantee shower or bath, but the downstairs one was very adequate. I loved the bird feeder next to one of the outdoor baths for bird watching and bathing, what joy! On the downside, on a chilly day in February, the outside temperatures weren't quite hot enough for me. Overall, a nice Mirage Roman with excellent amenities, meals, and a beautiful view for hikers and mountain lovers.

It was a real treat to spend two nights at Nawakanoyu Inn, which is located in the foothills. It was easy to get there from Yasumoto Station by free shuttle, and in the mornings, a shuttle will take you to Kamikochi. At least in my limited knowledge of Japan, the Roman was lovely, simple, and elegant, giving off the impression that it was very traditional and traditional. The majority of the guests staying there were Japanese, and my husband and I were the only US tourists there. For breakfast and supper, the food was excellent kiseki, and there was a ton of little, delectable meals, and if you are hiking in Kamikochi, they will pack you a lunch for a fairly reasonable price. The onset are open, but with a lovely outlook one overlooks the woods, and the other, the mountains, and they are open 247, so you can go enjoy the steamy hot springs whenever you want. Simple, spare, tatami mats and futons are provided in the futons, and the futons are quite thin, and not clushy. Shared bathrooms.
