The Ryouriryokan Hibachi is a tiny slice of a Japanesestyle inn roman that overlooks Lake Kariya in the north of Gunman Prefecture. 4 of the 5 rooms have stunning lake views, surrounded by hilly hills, which can also be seen through the large picture windows in the lounge area. Everything is compact, including the hot spring baths, but the overall layout is well designed and peaceful. The roman is run by the Hibachi family and prides itself on its delicious cuisine that is based on fresh local produce. We had trouble getting up from a futon on a tatami floor and a room with twin beds with a view of the lake. Watching the lake change as the skies and light change was a magical experience. It is a wonderful place to escape and unwind from the noise of the big cities by drinking in the onset and reading a book or two. The resident cat may occasionally come on.
