We stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and were blown away. The staff are the kindest and most thoughtful people you will ever meet and far exceeded our already high expectations. The inn itself is a very peaceful place to be. With only 5 rooms, we rarely saw or noticed other guests. There are no public baths, so its not a big deal to just book one of the 2 private baths. Breakfast was great both days and was available from 7 am to 9 am, although it may be slightly off. This may not be the most luxurious or most luxurious ryoken, but its charm and hospitality more than make up for it. Being at toshiharu felt like being welcomed into a family home, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. We definitely intend to return when we have the chance.4,6/513 Sep 2024

The service was amazing, the hot tubs were a lovely touch, and the welcome drink was delicious. Andy, thank you for giving us such a wonderful experience and giving us such a wonderful tour. What a wonderful experience in kyoto! If youre looking for a traditional japanese experience, you must stay in a ryokan! The staff was perfect. I cant think of any hotel staff who have been so nice and helpful. There is a curfew at 11 or 12 oclock, i think, this is not the kind of place to go out. If youre seeking a traditional japanese experience in kyoto, i highly recommend staying here. As a solo traveler, it was such a wonderful experience to stay here. From the welcome tea, aesthetics, and greetings (itsuteratsushiyaimase and okaerinasai) when leaving and returning for the day, i was treated to a traditional japanese experience. I stayed in the upstairs tsuki room, which had a lovely view of the front garden and a separate dining area within the room where you could choose breakfast. The room is exquisitely decorated, and the futon was cozy and warm enough to make me didnt really need to turn on the heat pump. The bathrooms and toilets are all communal, but they are kept very clean, and the baths are cleaned in between uses. You must reserve a 30-minute slot for the bath and shower. There is a traditional wooden tub where you can soak for a bit after taking a shower. The scent of the wood was very soothing and a perfect way to end the night. It is located in a quiet residential area but is still accessible and about a 3minute walk from the nearest train station.4,6/57 Feb 2023

The rooms were beautiful and spotless. This is an old house that used to be a regular home, and each one has a unique character. It would be nice if I could discover another of their rooms if I returned to Kyoto. I'm very happy that I stayed at this Roman. Having public transportation that is located close to the Romans and rather in a hidden but strategic area allowed me to thoroughly unwind after traveling through Kyoto. I got greeted by the lovely roman owner after my day trips, who took excellent care of me and made sure that everything was ideal for my stay. Despite the fact that the weather wasn't perfect the majority of the time during my visit, the rainy landscape in the backyard created a very soothing ambiance, and I felt very relaxed in this atmosphere. It was exactly what I needed. The rooms were stunning and spotless. Because this is an old property that used to be a normal home, each one is distinct and unique.4,4/53 Agt 2024

My family stayed here for a few days. Some of the staff speak english well, so we felt very well taken care of. They are very helpful and polite and the place is very clean. We had a traditional breakfast, which was quite a culinary experience. I dont know if they advertise it but this place has multiple Michelin awards!.4,4/54 Jul 2024

The room is amazing. I really like the japanese style. When i checked in, the staff enthusiastically introduced the structure and usage of the entire house. The rooms are exquisite and beautiful, as are the facilities on both floors. There are many foreigners living here. Despite the house being more than 100 years old and appearing to be well maintained. The bathroom is very comfortable, and the bathtub is very special and comfortable! The matcha and wagashi provided at checkin are delicious, and the homemade japanese breakfast is also quite good. Next time i go to kyoto, i will try it again.4,4/522 Jun 2024

This is a hidden gem in the heart of kyokan! The location is very convenient and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Each room is unique and well decorated to take you back hundreds of years to traditional japanese life. The garden view is spectacular, the traditional bathtub is amazing, and the breakfast is very good! I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try a real ryokan experience!.4,4/514 Sep 2023

A truly unforgettable experience. This is a beautiful magical place. The house itself is very beautiful with beautiful japanese gardens. Traditional onsen is so nice to have after a day of sightseeing. Everything in the house is of the highest quality. Breakfast was out of this world. I can honestly say it was the best breakfast ive ever had, and all cooked by the owners mother. The staff are all lovely, very welcoming and accommodating. The location is very central and walking distance to some of the sights (which are very spread out throughout the city. It is one of the more expensive ryokans, but it is very worth it. Our stay was fantastic. An elderly lady greeted us, offered us a sweet treat, a drink, and shared a few details about the place. She was very friendly and kind, knew a little english and spanish and we were able to have a fun conversation with her. We needed a place to eat dinner and she even made a reservation for us at a nearby restaurant with authentic japanese food which they didnt know and the menu was in that language. She booked us a few seats at the counter so we could see how the chefs were cooking the meals without telling her this. She definitely knew what we were looking for. They will book your slot for private use of the bathroom 1 hour, 30 minutes per guest. The bathtub water was prepared with herbs and smelled delicious. It was exactly what you needed after a long day of tourism in hot japanese summer. Breakfast was also delicious and very tasteful. A young lady explained to us that her mother cooked breakfast for us. We felt like family. We wanted to buy yukatas and asked a young man working the night shift if they had any. He rang someone and showed us a couple. The next morning a young lady offered to take us to a nearby family shop where we could buy them. She even carried one of our bags! The ryokan was beautiful and both japanese gardens (we had a private one in our room) were a dream. You could see how they looked after them with love, water bottles and soft drinks. The futtons were very soft and comfortable to sleep in. They provide you with a yukata and slippers to walk around the place. There was a curfew from 11 pm to 7 am, which didnt bother us. We stayed at toshiharu for 2 nights. Our room was kiku. When we arrived there, the staff was very friendly. The experience at toshiharu was very special as the building is unique. I really enjoyed the garden view from the room. I cant get tired of this kind of view. Everything at toshiharu is one of the best, even the small things, such as the small bag they gave us as a gift, the warm and cozy blanket, and the snacks at the library. Most importantly, i want to thank okamisan for her hospitality. She helped us find great restaurants nearby and called restaurants to make reservations. She even came to see us at dinner on her way home after work to check if we were doing well. We were so moved by her thoughtfulness and kindness. She also speaks very good english.
