The food here is quite good with some interesting special dishes. Service is very lacking. Plenty of drinks are available, including draft beer. A special dish was a whole chicken that was tasty.

The room was clean and comfortable. The building systems are a bit outdated. There is a conference center nearby.

Many people would be disappointed to see a notice in the elevator that the buffet includes free qingdao beer, but they do not actually have it. But that was about the only disappointment. I had an upgraded high floor room, although facing the hill rather than the sea. I was told the sea view room has a very nice view. There is a very large park and ancient olympic facilities nearby. The beach was swimming in May, although I just waded. It is suggested to move left from the hotel and up a hill to a local shopping district. At dinner time, scorpions were offered as a snack! There are several banks, but despite what they say on the outside, they really cannot change money easily and essentially have to go to the Bank of China downtown, but there is an atm in the lobby. To return to the buffet, it offers local food with a heavy veggie menu. Those who are used to westernized Chinese food may be disappointed. Each day, the menu changes, but not much. I only discovered on the last night that a chef on the side was ready to hand make noodles for you. This was delicious, and he came over to my table later to make sure I enjoyed it! I enjoyed the setting and the hotel generally is a good place to stay.

Overall, a nice hotel, and I will gladly return there in the future. In October 2018, I spent a few days at the Shanghai hotel, which has a view of parks and the sea, including bathing beach no 1, the best beach in Qingdao. The setting is ideal for attractions, including the underwater world, which is a 10-minute walk from the hotel without having to cross the roads. I stayed in a floor-to-floor room with views of the coast. The room was nicely furnished, and it included a kettle and sachets of coffee, which contained powdered milk and sugar. The television mainly broadcasts Chinese channels, although one included the news in English. Overall, the room was clean and well-kept and the restroom had dispensers pretended to be of shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. Every day, two bottles of drinking water were provided. On the first floor, there were restaurants, and buffets on the first floor were available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Additionally, guests could order a la carte. The hotel was packed with numerous conferences and weddings, the latter of which usually took place on Sundays. Next to the main entrance, there was a little qingdao brewery. This offered a variety of products and was a convenient place to enjoy one of their famous beers.
