If you are staying in one of the private pool villas, do not leave without doing the floating breakfast basket. Waking up and having a beautifully arranged breakfast delivered and set afloat in your own private pool, surrounded by jungle and Pacific air, is an experience that is genuinely difficult to put into words. It is indulgent, it is romantic, and it is the kind of memory you carry home with you. Non-negotiable. From the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out, every single member of the staff treated us like family. They team went above and beyond, not just in service, but in genuine hospitality. They took the time to share local recommendations that turned into some of our favorite memories of the trip. Jennifer and Nubia delivered one of the most relaxing and beautifully executed massages we’ve ever had. The golf cart team, those guys were exceptional. They made sure we didn’t miss a single animal on the property. A heartfelt thank you to the housekeeping team for keeping our room immaculate every single day. That level of consistency and care does not go unnoticed. To the owner: bravo. The architectural design, the attention to detail, the seamless blend of luxury and nature — it is clear that every inch of Makanda was designed with intention and love. You have created something truly special. We will be back 🙏💚

This hotel is an absolute dream! The rooms are beautifully appointed, comfortable and private. The pools are gorgeous, especially the saltwater infinity pool where you can relax and watch the most magnificent sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. Food is excellent, and drink selections at all the bars are fantastic, made with natural fruit and premium spirits. Don’t forget to check out the small private beach, where you’ll find white-faced capuchin monkeys swinging from the trees. A stay at Makanda will make Manuel Antonio even more magical!

My stay at Makanda in Costa Rica was nothing short of exceptional. The property itself is stunning, with breathtaking views and an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. Every detail of the resort reflects thoughtful design and a commitment to creating a truly elevated experience. What sets Makanda apart, however, is the level of service. The staff was beyond helpful and genuinely attentive, rivaling what you would expect at some of the finest hotels in the world. Candy and Alfredo went above and beyond in assisting with our private plane arrangements and ensured that every aspect of our stay was seamless and perfectly coordinated within the resort. Alexander, who took care of us in the pool area, made an already incredible experience unforgettable. His attentiveness and care were unmatched, and he truly spoiled us while we enjoyed some of the most magical sunsets I have ever seen. I rarely take the time to write reviews, as I generally expect excellence from the places I choose to stay. However, Makanda exceeded those expectations in every way, and it absolutely deserves recognition. This is a destination I would return to without hesitation.

Fantastic service with Candy at check in and throughout. Leo was absolutely instrumental in guiding our overall experience, gave fantastic food recommendations, was incredibly prompt at attending to every single need. The staff is overall 10/10. We stayed at the honeymoon grand villa and the accommodations were 10/10 in all respects.

Makanda by the Sea is exceptional—pure luxury in paradise. The staff makes every moment magical, and I’m deeply grateful for their warmth and care. Jorge is an outstanding Spanish teacher, patiently guiding me with enthusiasm. Jessica, though new, excels and shines brightly. Alfredo at the front desk is the most helpful person alive—always going above and beyond. Andrew and Joe greet you with genuine smiles that instantly lift your spirits. Alexander bounces around with endless energy and a big “pura vida” smile, handling everything swiftly. Branden takes incredible care of our room, keeping it perfect. Elias at the pool bar is as friendly as can be. Roger, looking like a movie star, pops up everywhere with his infectious smile. Bayran provides excellent driving service. Johnathan and Samuel zip us around effortlessly from beach to pool and beyond. Thank you all—the heart of Makanda. Pura vida!
