We would recommend Hotel des faculties to anyone on a modest budget who isn't fussy about sharing a toilet and a shower. I stayed here with my girlfriend for two nights and they were our thoughts. The hotelier speaks good English and offers excellent value for the money. Nice breakfast in a good location, 3 minutes' walk from Jean Mace subway station and 15 minutes' journey from Gare Parties along the metro I towards Gare. The room itself was clean and in good condition, and once locked from the inside, couldn't be opened from the outside, which made us feel secure. The communal toilet and shower weren't in great shape, and after a day, our fellow travelers had made themselves at home. 8 double rooms on our level, each shared a toilet and a shower, were recommended for getting around outside of your room, the sink drain was foul when used, but that wasn't a problem otherwise it didn't make the room unpleasant to be in. Fortunately, only two other rooms appeared to be occupied, so we didn't have any difficulties using the facilities. Overall, you can stay there if you don't have any other options and it is close to the gare terrace, but definitely not worth the price paid. You can get a star hotel in the same neighborhood for the same price or 510 euros more. The feelings left by this location are quite contradictory. At first sight, the price is reasonable and the location is ideal. But when you check in which is rather difficult, there is no one at the reception after 1900, before 700, or at the weekend, though you get all instructions via mail. When you enter the roomful two with private bathroom, your first wish is gone. From that smell, hygiene, especially from the bathroom, which has awfully unpleasant curtains and dirty tiles. White linens and towels are the only added extra. Breakfast costs 5 errands you get 1 pain, 1 croissant, coffee or tea. Seems new, but I would prefer to look for another place.
