COMO Cocoa Island, a luxurious 5-star resort, offers undisturbed tranquility in a quieter area of Makunufushi within the South Malé Atolls. Accessible via a 40-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport (MLE), a roundtrip airport shuttle is available for a surcharge.
The long, thin island, approximately 350 meters, features a picturesque sand spit that disappears with the tide. Its natural landscape of palms, wild sea grapes, and hibiscus is preserved, with a house reef creating a crystal-clear, calm, and current-free lagoon teeming with marine life, including rays and baby sharks, making it ideal for families. Designed by Singaporean architect Cheong Yew Kuan, the resort blends contemporary and indigenous styles using natural materials.
The resort features 33 overwater bungalows, perched on the lagoon's southern edge and accessible by planked walkways. These accommodations boast New Zealand pine with Kajan thatched roofs, high-raftered ceilings, and glossy teak floors, creating an airy ambiance. Interiors, in hues of white and blue, evoke a Hamptons beach hut vibe. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows open onto private decks, perfect for lounging or al fresco dining. Rooms offer air conditioning, separate living areas, and balconies or terraces. Amenities include 42-inch LED televisions with satellite programming, in-room video streaming, complimentary Wi-Fi, refrigerators, minibars, and blackout curtains. Partially open bathrooms feature separate bathtubs and showers, designer toiletries, bidets, hair dryers, and bathrobes.
Dining options include Ufaa Restaurant, a beachfront establishment with a bar/lounge, offering a delightful free breakfast buffet and halal choices. Guests can also enjoy a cafe, a poolside bar, a waterside lounge, BBQ facilities, and room service.
