On my way to Veracruz, Cordoba was just a onenight stopover. I was pleased with that, mainly because theres nothing else nearby than a friendly local with a couple of decent cafes, and I wouldnt have wanted to stay more than one night at this hotel. I expected a decent, if characterless, modern business hotel from their website. But it is less than that. It has a bit of a creepy, institutional feel. Similar in my experience to those hotels I stayed in during the Soviet era in eastern Europe. My rooms air conditioner worked fine, which was fantastic considering the oppressive summer heat. But everything else in the room was a thirdrate, and the hot water was inconsistent. The space smelled a little damp. Although a hot breakfast was included in the room rate, the hotel appeared overpriced for what it was. Because Cordobas hotel options are relatively limited, I believe that the palace or no palace in any language gets away with charging what it does. It is a place to sleep for a night, but with the ac and the central location, it has nothing to recommend. On the local part, there was what appeared to be a lovely hotel in a historic building, but I couldnt locate it in any online listings.

The rooms appearance is nice and they have beautiful beds, nice bedspreads, nice sheets, an air conditioner, and a number of channels. However, the windows do not close completely and lots of noise enters the room, the toilet leaks leaving a stream of water across the floor, the lighting is very dim, the only electrical socket is broken so that a plug falls out of it, the ac unit only cools whereas similar units in other places where Ive stayed also heat when the weather is cool as it is during my visit. Wifi is good, but it needs to be re-boot for several hours because it wasnt working.
