What a place to stay! Across from the standard Continental vacation apartment. Although it is a manor house that has been in the same family for centuries as can be seen in the decor, photographs, and artifacts in the welcoming living rooms, bedrooms, and gardens, it is the true Portuguese home experience. However, the kitchen, en suite bathroom, patio for outside dining, swimming pool, and wifi are all located in the hotel. And, most importantly, the owner of the property, our host, was on hand to tell us about the area and the best places to see, restaurants, museums, and local events. For us, this included book a magical evening horse ride along the beach in a local town. We also swam in rivers, visited the national park, surfed in the atlantic, and attended the local village summer festival activities. We loved the peaceful atmosphere and rural beauty of the area, which appeared to be off the major tourist routes where one could escape to traditional rural villages and order a coffee in local bars and cafes. A wonderful week, we hope to come back!.

Very comfortable, peaceful place, close to Ponte de Lima, one of the most lovely villages in Portugal. In the past 600 years, the same family has been the ruler of this ancient Portuguese manor. There are well-kept gardens and a stunning view from the fully furnished rooms with antique furniture.

When you descend the winding, wooded pathway to the lanheses palace's walled courtyard, you'll go back in time. More a laundromat than a chic boutique hotel, this superbly beautiful mansion house from the 16th century that resembles another era, is stuffed with antiques and rich in history. The owner is beautiful, fluent in French, Portuguese, and English. She is incredibly informed about the house and the area, and she is glad to spend time talking about them with her guests. We had reserved a family room, which spanned 2 adequate-sized bedrooms, a bathroom, and a room in our own wing. The beds aren't particularly comfortable, but that wasn't a huge deal. Even though everything works, the bathroom is outdated, it works for the rest of the home! Beautiful, handmade Portuguese tiles adorn the walls. A continental breakfast, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, orange juice freshly squeezed from the trees in the garden, yogurt, cheese, ham, and fresh breadrolls, croissants, and pastries, were included for a cost of 130 euros a night. The gracious housekeeper, Rosa, provides breakfast in the huge guest lounge or on a verandah with views of the garden and distant hills. While our children loved
