I will come back to the of and recommend it for great skiing and the snow and ice festival. At the end of January, I stayed at the of resort in Taebaek. I was in Taebaek for the annual snow and ice festival. The of resort is large, and transportation from taebaek train station and downtown takes around 15 minutes. The resort is at the top of the mountains, so you can take in a nice view whenever you see it. When I reserved, I requested a room with a bed because many of them didn't have beds, and Koreans love to lie on the ground. The room I got was very nice, clean, and modern. There were 2 double beds, a kitchen table with 4 chairs, a kitchenette, and a to stand on the floor. With a stand-up shower, the restroom was modern and clean. There were a lot of kitchen utensils, including a rice cooker and microwave, plates, cups, and a kettle. Taebaek is extremely cold in the winter and the room had nice underfoot heating that I could control on the wall. There was also a balcony. There is plenty of parking at the ski area, but there is only a basic cafeteria serving fast food. On New Years Eve, only one short beginners paste was open for skiing. There is not enough natural snow and there are no artificial snowmaking equipment. I stayed as a couple on a daytrip, 1 skier and 1 recuperating. The cafe downstairs was nice with an english menu and wifi, and the staff graciously corrected misunderstood orders.

We have never traveled to Korea and, even though my wife had been skiing before, it was my first trip. I was unable to book a rental car from Seoul airport because of a challenge with my driving license, which requires an international permit. We followed the reasonably priced bus for a 4. 5 hour journey before taking a taxi to the hotel. The 02 resort is a little like a hidden gem We went for Christmas Week and were the only European family there, with the mainstay being Korean visitors. It was a fantastic experience. We were expecting this from the website, but they were incredibly welcoming and supportive. The accommodations were clean, with simple but practical amenities. The ski slopes were very easy to access, and the facilities were very much cheaper than many other locations. The resorts availability is its only drawback. There are great restaurants on the slopes in Taebaek town, but the hotels fast food joint and the sole open restaurant were a unique experience that should never be repeated.

We're a bit disappointed with the resort's lack of facilities, the low visibility of the town, the dingy city, and the lack of snow. It's difficult to estimate exactly what costs, but we were able to save our time ski touring. The resort promised to be a resort, but that's largely misrepresented. In January 2014, we visited during the busy skiing season and paid usd 200 per night for a studio apartment with a minimal but useful kitchen. The room was in excellent condition, and the floor heating was actually too hot. Although we rented equipment to go down from the ski lodge at the foot of the hill, it was not practical to adjust the room's temperature. The slopes and resort were virtually empty when we got there in the middle of the week, and although the snow was thick and icy, there were no lines for the two days of skiing, as opposed to having your own ski slope. We were extremely appreciative of the helpful ski patrols and staff, and the slopes are maintained properly. There was a significant 50 discount for paying cash, which is a great deal cheaper than paying in cash. It was difficult to gauge precisely what cost what, however, and in the end, three of us skied the morning and afternoon sessions, and rented all of our equipment for an incredible US$110.
