The building is absolutely breathtaking with a great courtyard and free big parking lot. The best check in and my room was everything I expected. The design of the room was very tastefully decorated, the bathroom was cool and there was a great shower. I was very impressed and will definitely book here again because I have so much history inside the walls of the oldest hotel in England.

I regret eating there. Major letdown We chose the angel and royal because we wanted to dine somewhere unique on our last night in the Grantham area before traveling to London. We arrived at the front desk to make a reservation and were informed that the restaurant opened at 6 and we had to enter the dining room bar area. An extremely friendly receptionist. We arrived at six, and were the only people in the restaurant. The server took orders for drinks and then returned to order food. She informed us that there wasnt any chicken kiev, the only chicken dish on the menu, so the three of us ordered steak. A different server then came to inform us that they only had two steaks. A restaurant with no chicken and only two steaks is rather suspect. I changed my order to a salad with shrimp so my husband and son could enjoy the steak. The food was edible but nothing special. The steaks werent particularly tender or juicy. The salad was just unsettling. Due to the subpar menu and services, we wouldnt choose to eat here once more, although our service was adequate until the payment time. My husband had to pay at the bar to have good WiFi because it couldnt work in the dining room. The restrooms were clean, which is a plus. Overall, average but far superior places to choose from. I wish we had. First restaurant experience a major letdown in a while.

For an end of July visit, this was much appreciated. In my initial evaluation, I would state that I didn't choose this hotel simply because of its storied past. It was chosen because of it's convenient location in downtown Grantham and affordable rates. Just for these factors, I would give this hotel an excellent rating. I only became aware of the hotel's history after my arrival. I must say that I was impressed as a history aficionado. Back to the evaluation. My room was quite large, nicely organized, and clean. The windows swelled out onto the outside, allowing light into the space. There were four fluffy pillows on the mattress, and the bed was cozy. The room also featured a fan. The staff was cordial and courteous. When I was in the reception area, the employees asked if I had a drink. I did check into the hotel bar and placed an order. The friendly bartender quickly gave my drink to me. The king's room was where breakfast was served. This is a very magnificent space. My waitress was really hospitable and attended to all of my requirements. There were numerous breakfast choices on the menu, and I discovered something that suited my taste. The only unpleasant part of my visit was that I had to postpone it by one day due to a strike by the rail workers union. I had

At this hotel, we had only two very brief stays, but the personnel was so kind and attentive that it seemed like a little while. The staff was so good it was difficult to put into words the food was great, and everything about it was perfect. The bar and restaurant staff were outstanding, and Tom, a new member of the team, deserves special recognition for going above and beyond for being so helpful. This was one of the few hotels I've stayed at where the staff complements the setting in almost everything, very well-done, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone for making our two-night stay so special. I wouldn't think twice about recommending this hotel, as everything about it was perfect.

Visit Angel and Royal if you are seeking a nice day treat before tea. Ive had many afternoon teas, but this one was unique. There was a beautiful selection of new items, from savory to sweet. Eggs with light air scotch, scones and cream, lemon syllabus, and a large teapot were the highlight! The interior of the ancient hotel is a treat in and of itself. And that lovely afternoon with courteous and efficient servers is another. Cant wait for another birthday to rock!.
