Really great hotel with so much attention to detail. Record players in the room and a huge selection of records is a really nice touch. The Radio was on when we arrived to our room and the Pantry is generous & a really unique touch. Canadian lady on the Bar was knowledgeable & super friendly (Pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the extensive bar menu was priced). Just really really cool & great location.

We stayed in the Bootham suite, the room was light and airy and had a lovely small balcony to enjoy the sunshine. The four poster bed was very comfy and there was a small seating area to relax in. Breakfast was very good, everything is a la carte and the staff were very attentive. The hotel is in a great location, very easy walking distance into York but also very quiet and peaceful. The Pantry is a really nice touch but it was a shame that there wasn't a fridge in the room to keep drinks cool. The bathroom in the suite is not very private so you need to be comfortable with whoever you're sharing with!! It would also benefit from a bit more shelving around the sink as there wasn't much space to put anything. The toiletries were very nice and there was a lovely large bathtub and separate rainfall shower.

Highly recommend No.1 Guesthouse to anyone visiting York. The hotel is just outside the old city walls, but only a short walk to York Minster. The hotel is wonderfully designed and updated. The lounge and bar are comfortable and well appointed. Our room was fantastic, with a comfortable bed and tons of natural light. The staff at No.1 were all pleasant and helpful.

Fantastic hotel. Staff are really friendly. They treated our daughter to a chocolate bar for her birthday. The pantry of treats for guests is fantastic too. The rooms are lovely. The food is great. A great atmosphere. We will be back.

Nice quick checkin, shown to pantry to see the range of free nibbles and drinks on offer throughout our stay and then to our room; compact, lovely features, like the dolls house drinks centre, the record player (with LPs and a library downstairs if the ones in the room didn't excite). The hotel has a grand entrance and is very relaxed, some may say bohemian; dark walls, interesting features throughout, lovely bright and comfortable lounge, all in all very good value and only a short walk to the centre of York along a wide avenue-style road, past a park and your first tourist sight is the minster.
