I had a 4 night break to explore the countryside in South Devon and Malborough is close enough to the sea to be able to walk there without needing a car which I wanted and it is near a bus stop so you can go by train which I did. You can see some of the more out of the way places by foot which are not commercialised and there are plenty of footpaths and lanes to get around. there are a lot of options for walking and day trips.I had a single room which was economical with a newly refurbished bathroom. There was some traffic noise as I had a bedroom in the front.

Tim and his dog Mowgli were the best hosts! Tim is lovely and nothing was too much of a hassle for him. The rooms are pretty basic but clean, cosy and have a kettle and coffee/tea, etc. I'd recommend staying here!

Tim was a lovely helpful chap, nice large room with comfortable bed. Additional towels & loo roll would be useful. The place had a lively bar with pool table. Location was ideal for travelling around area to some lovely nearby beaches etc.

Host very friendly and helpful. Quirky little pub with a nice atmosphere. Room was fresh and clean with on suite. Live music on Saturday night was excellent and provided a great mood. We will definitely go back.

Very friendly landlord, helped with booking taxi for our trip, good breakfast, happy atmosphere in the pub life music in the evening. Spacious room with big beds lots of storage and clean bathroom

The landlord was wonderful and willing to go the extra mile for his guests. The room was very comfortable and cosy, complete with a desk and chair. I didn't have a problem with the room's artwork depicting the female form, but I can see why this might not be to everyone's taste! The shower looked modern and worked really well, but no shower gel or shampoo was provided. The one thing that really bugged me was the dodgy Cloud wifi, which was both unsecure and unreliable. Worked ok in the pub but kept dropping out in the room. And I couldn't get it to work at all on my Samsung phone. Although you can park on the road outside, I don't recommend this as the road is quite narrow and frequently used by wide heavy farm machinery. Fortunately there is a free car park by the village hall, less than a 2 minute walk away. Windows were single-glazed so didn't keep the noise out, but the road outside is pretty quiet (apart from said machinery) so it's not really a problem.

Pub is very old school and unique and full of character to the land lords taste. Room neat and tidy, but some work needed on the entrance to the sleeping quarters. Owner and staff very friendly and helpful.

Return ’home’ after years away. Tim is a fine host, room was cosy and clean. Eclectic collection of art pieces might not suit everyone but fine for us.
