To start with the positives, let's start at the room. The room was a decent size, the shower had hot water, and the bed was very comfy. The location near the castle and the older part of Stirling was also good. But, I don't appreciate being misled when I asked if I could leave my bag due to early arrival in Stirling. I was told I could, but there was no one there when I arrived. When the front desk did open, the attitude was pretty much couldn't care less. Although cheap is cheap, there is a travellodge in Stirling, which might be a better place to stay.

a good place to stay. Historic structure that has been completely renovated to provide high-quality hostel accommodation. In the town center and next to tourist attractions. Limited on-site parking. Staff are pleasant and welcoming. The room is clean, spacious, and comfortable in a basic way, but lacks hangers. Large communal areas to lounge upstairs and lounge and dining downstairs. Good-sized modern and well equipped kitchen. Free wifi. The whole place is clean and well-maintained.

The hostel's signage is poor as luckily we only discovered a large comfortable lounge on the first level. The hostel's cleanliness is a problem. A very tired hostel in dire need of attention and love. For example, the kitchen could use a renovation. Despite having a large catering kitchen and a communal kitchen, there are no meals besides a continental breakfast provided by anyone, yet who would position two large refrigerators right next to the main door? There is also no cafe. The setting is excellent, albeit steep for some. The hostel and supermarkets are always accessible by stairs and the rooms on the top floor are very poor. Please keep in mind that there is no lift and that there are stairs and there is no elevator. I would avoid rooms with dated furniture and a dangerous shelf on the headboard if there are accessibility issues.

From the age of 5 to 15 years, young people must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and may be accommodated in a single gendered shared room with the parent or guardian and other guests, at the discretion and responsibility of the parent or guardian. The young person/people, the parent/guardian, and the other occupants of the room must be of the same gender. SYHA advise that additional notice be given to the destination Youth Hostel when travelling with children, to ensure that suitable accommodation is available.
SYHA Hostelling Scotland is a self-funding charity for the benefit of all those wishing to learn and experience what Scotland has to offer. They provide affordable, comfortable, safe, and quality-assured accommodation. SYHA Hostelling Scotland is a member of Hostelling International.

As a not-for-profit organization, a temporary membership of GBP 3.00 per person per night is charged per guest on arrival but is free to students (relevant ID is required) in full-time education or children under 16.

When you book a bed you are booking a bunk bed within a shared dormitory with other people with shared facilities per dorm.

No stag or hen parties permitted at hostel.
