Our room was above the bar area and although not rowdy could hear the people in there. When the people in the room next door came in it felt like they were coming into our room. The service was excellent, the bed very comfy, had a great night's sleep ready for a charity hike and the Kendal mint cake bar came in very handy

A great stop over in the Lakes. We used this lovely pub on our way back from Scotland but would definitely stay again when visiting the lakes. Easy to get to, friendly staff and good food.

A lovely Inn well located in the lake district. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Spacious and comfortable room. Both dinner and breakfast were very enjoyable. Overall we would highly recommend staying at the herdwick Inn and exploring the beautiful local area.

Lovely cosy inn. The food was outstanding! Especially the grouse and local lamb shank. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will go back for sure and highly recommend. Wonderful location for access to the Dales etc. Penrith few miles away.

We were looking for an overnight stop travelling south from Aberdeen to Bristol and thought this would be a good half way. We weren't disappointed. It is a small Inn only 5 or 6 bedrooms but was ideal. In a quiet setting and lovely bar of the old fashioned era. Great character. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. It may be a bit on the small side for some but suited our needs. A little window looked on to the countryside. Very comfortable bed and we both slept well. We had dinner and it was excellent. Chris being a top chef, thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Thoroughly recommend eating here. Good food, good beer, what's not to like. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. We had no complaints, so much so we booked in for another night on our trip homewards and were welcomed back on our arrival. Chris and his partner have only been running the Herdwick for a year and we wish them both continued success. We would definitely stay here again if we needed to be in the area. Diane & Graeme Will

It's time to put on the fire! We had a wonderful day's sleep after a day in Creswick or Perish. Parking is close to the back and is simple to locate off the a. Arriving at the king and double rooms, they had nice decor, were charming, and had a traditional rural feel. It was horribly cold and the radiators were not turned on until after supper, but they kept heating up quickly. It's wonderful to have a drink of water in the room, cozy mattresses, and fresh, fresh linen. The evening meal was bustling and the establishment was short on staff, but the employees did an excellent job of serving hot and quickly. The dining area was once more chilly. Perhaps it's time to lighten up the flame! The meals were lovely and well prepared. Breakfast is prepared by Jessica, which is incredibly welcoming and accommodating, has a decent selection, and has a rapid delivery of hot meals.

We had a great experience here. Amazing food, gluten-free options, great service, calm atmosphere, and good value. Best homemade chips, and gluten-free crumbles. All around excellent.

We just sat outside for a drink and one afternoon had a share platter of breaded cheese, sweet corn, chips, etc. As a snack. This was a holiday cottage we stayed in Penruddock and walked over the fields to the herdwick several times. All very nice. The outside seating area could be improved, but other than that everything was fine.

Clean, spacious and comfortable room with lots of amenities in the room eg cafetière coffee, hairdryer, tv, good wifi and more. Lovely breakfast in the morning too. Centrally located in Alston with convenience stores and other facilities nearby. Only negative was the evening meals we had in the restaurant. Both undercooked in different ways unfortunately.
