I honestly cannot say enough about this hotel. For years, it was the spookiest-looking place around, but the results of the renovations are amazing. Everything is fresh and spotlessly clean. Polished floors and windows, detailed ceilings, period furnishings, comfortable (and anti-bedbug sealed) beds, luxury linens. Our room had a mini-fridge and a microwave, ceiling fans and large-flatscreen tv. For a lower price than any of the national brand hotels, we had a luxury stay with character! Add in the friendly, helpful staff and onsite restaurant with great prices and delicious biscuits and blue corn pancakes… you really can’t beat it!

A beautiful and charming historic stay! I loved exploring the hotel, staff was super friendly, beautiful antiques everywhere. I loved reading the historic facts about the hotel and surrounding areas in the hallways. My kids loved reading books available in the rooms. Will definitely stay again!

We were drawn to the Castaneda because of its Harvey House history. The check in process was simple, and our room was changed from a suite with two beds to one with a sitting room, the Harvey Suite, because my husband and I were traveling alone. Nothing about this stay fell short of my hopes. In fact, we experienced far more than we anticipated and left with a deeper appreciation for Fred Harvey, the Harvey Girls, and the people who spent so much time and effort reviving the place and keeping the high level of hospitality alive. Do not skip eating at the restaurant and/or bar. The chef is amazing, and our breakfast experience was honestly "the moment" during our trip because of him. From check in to check out, the hospitality shined, and I feel Mr. Harvey would smile seeing his legacy live on there. We had thought this may be a one -time trip, but this hotel in itself makes me want to return.

The property is well maintained. The staff was very helpful in recommending services and attractions. The breakfast was delicious but unfortunately we were there when the dining room was closed.

We truly enjoyed this property....so much character! We were upgraded to a bigger room without request. We loved the history of the place and convenience of being off a major freeway, downtown and by a train track but without the noise. Staff were kind but perhaps still learning. Breakfast was not served on Tuesday and Wednesday but hot coffee available in the lobby. The bar was closed when we arrived but looked cozy with plenty of seating. Would definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed the historic vibe, but with modern restoration. The food (dinner and breakfast on site) was excellent and we enjoyed chatting with the chef and hearing some of the history the hotel.

Excellent historic railroad hotel with delightful staff. The connoisseurs choice and worth diverting to stay in (it’s a funky town too). No food service early in the week. I think someone had been grooming a Newfoundland in the bathroom and housekeeping somehow hadn’t spotted the new carpet that had formed but small fry in the bigger picture.

We had a wonderful and restful overnight stay at this wonderful hotel. The room that we booked had issues with the AC, and we were given another room. The manager took us around and showed us one of the two rooms they had available, and right away we chose the first without looking at the other one. The room that we got was more than what we expected. It was clean, spacious, and we slept throughout the night without no issues. We did have dinner at the hotel bar and the food was good and the staff were very friendly. The environment was very relaxing. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
