This historic hotel is a jewel in West Texas. It is gracious and lovely, with a strong sense of history, but also brings the amenities that you'd want in an upscale hotel: a lovely restaurant and edgy cocktails, and a full, interesting menu. Above all, the people who work here are the icing on the cake: they are down-home in all the best ways and completely unpretentious; they are helpful and friendly and bring a strong sense of pride and ownership to their work. I just love El Capitan!

I didn't intend to stay in Van Horn, but that's how it worked out. Hotel El Capitan was a godsend though. Great place and it made my impromptu stay very worthwhile.

Had a wonderful stay - all of the staff I encountered were super nice and friendly. Felt safe and the room was the cleanest I’ve ever experienced. Yes, there is a train nearby - embrace it or go deal with the highway noise on the I-10 :-) I will gladly stay there again

What a hidden gem this hotel is! It’s one of the nicest hotels we’ve stayed in. The food in the restaurant is outstanding! Everyone we met was so nice!

What a beautiful place to stay. My husband and I are so happy that we found this charming hotel. The place was absolutely antique looking but at tge same time clean upscale. The bed omg, super comfy. Like sleeping on the clouds. The breakfast staff I loved the most. The front desk with those yummy warm cookies. I highly recommend this place. Will definitely come back.
