Helpful staff! I checked in late and forgot to notify the front desk ahead of time. Luckily they had already prepared instructions for me to safely get in. Room was spacious and perfect for a two-night stay. Walking distance to the Wharf and there’s a (free) trolly stop nearby to take you to the aquarium! Parking lot can be tight (we went over a long weekend) but even that they were able to assist us with.

We had booked 2 nights and the staff was very accommodating when we asked for a downstairs room, as the reservation was for upstairs. We also ended up staying an extra night because the location was perfect. A shout out to Erika and Tanner for helping make our stay so great! We will definitely stay there again!

Nice place, unique older hotel that we really enjoyed. Parking is a bit tight, I would plan on anything very large. Walkable to the wharf. Staff was very friendly and helpful

Erica, the receptionist, was terrific in the afternoon and evening. Her morning colleague, likewise. Breakfast was somewhat lacking. Thank you for a great stay.

Merritt House was very clean and a lovely, well-appointed hotel with a beautiful balcony and fireplace, vaulted ceilings and very comfortable beds and pillows. The breakfast was lacking a little bit. Very minimal choices. Skip breakfast there, and go to Alta Bakery instead! It was amazing!

Expedia shows a noon check-in but in fact once I arrived the staff informed me that it was actually 3 PM but a room is available and I was allowed in at about 1220. Throughout my stay staff was extremely attentive and helpful. I love being able to have a cozy fire in the evening and the room was adorned with all manner of African art, modern amenities, and a tasty breakfast the next morning. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but if you’re careful you’ll be fine. Room 15 and 16 upstairs are particularly nice because they have a base price but also include a patio with a table and two chairs.

Our room had no AC, so when we checked in we had to leave the balcony door open for a while to cool off. That in itself isn't a huge deal, but the room we were in had a balcony that was shared among multiple rooms. This is Monterey we are talking about, so I wasn't at all concerned, but it just seemed like the sort of thing people might like to know. Also some of the parking spots are tricky if you have a larger vehicle. All in we had a nice stay, and the breakfast the next morning was a solid offering. Considering the price and location I definitely recommend Merritt House Hotel. I would stay there again without hesitation!

Exedia had a deal on this one so I snapped it up. I was not disappointed. We were upgraded on arrival to a beautiful room with private deck outside. It was a suite - with a living room and fireplace and a beautiful bedroom. We had our wine and cheese on the deck - gorgeous with trees. I actually fell asleep on the couch out there. It was so nice. Staff was really great - everyone was very helpful and friendly. The house itself is really pretty and the gardens around it nice. We didn't use our car the whole time, because we could walk to everything. I suggest springing for the parking. There isn't much parking in the area. Includes breakfast, which was pastry, bagels, fruit, yogurt, and hardboiled eggs. There is a nice dining room where it is served. All in all a true find and a great place to stay in Monterey.

We only stayed two nights and experienced one room, so there are other reviewers with different experiences. Our room was a bit dark and the lighting options limited so we were unable to set the rooms ambience to our liking. Also, there was only a patio door to let in fresh air, no windows we could keep open at night when we slept. The breakfast offerings were limited, especially when considering the food options in the area. And the area did provide some highlight to our stay. Great location with many fun places to see and experience all within walking distance. Once you park your car at this hotel, you won’t want to take it out of the very tight parking lot! Scary small area with very tight parking spots!
