We stayed at the beautiful Kaya villa. Our daughter was sick during our stay. Max our tour guide drove us to the doctor! Yoshko let us borrow her thermometer and brought us cookies. Everyone was incredibly kind and friendly - Taka our English speaking host exceedingly so. We also enjoyed the best dinner in Japan. Arigato for all the beautiful memories.

We stayed at Kaya Villa in April 2015. Kaya Villa is a stand-alone cottage in Miyama village about 30 km northwest of Kyoto. Property manager picked us up at the local train station (Sonobe) and, at our request, stopped by the supermarket on the way there because we wanted to cook our own meals (there's no room service or restaurant in the village!). Locally-sourced breakfast ingredients were, however, included in our rental package, and they were delicious. Other than the thatched roof, the home is thoroughly modern -- which was fantastic for us: awesome kitchen, bedroom and bathroom spaces. Easily accommodated our family of two adults and three children. The real beauty of staying there was the locale: rural Japan. We could hear the birds and insects chirp, and the river water flow. With the bicycles available to guests, we rode throughout the village, and found all manner of shrines, cherry blossoms, and even a museum. We hired activities (at the Villa) such as cooking class (with local women) and bamboo workshop (with the thatch roofers) -- worthwhile and fun for the family. While we enjoyed the city life in Tokyo and Kyoto, our time in Miyama village was the highlight of our trip. We hope to return one day.

A fantastic option if you'd like to explore Japan outside of the tourist traps in the city. Both the large house and the cottage were in our rooms, and we thoroughly loved them both! When we made our reservation, the hotel employees approached us. Additionally, our transportation options, meal choices, and exploration options were described to us. Setsuko does a great job of customizing your trip for what you want to see and do. We had the option of a guided trek to see nearby waterfalls and forest hikes, cutting down sustainable bamboo and making my own handcrafts that we kept as souvenirs from our trip, guided bicycle rides, trips to see 37 historic thatched houses in a quaint working village, local crafts and arts, shrines, temples. Whatever you want to see and do, setsuko can assist you in deciding what you have to do in mama. Frogs welcome you at night, the meals were excellent, and wildlife is abundant. The journey is actually much more simple than we had anticipated! If you have a or pass to visit Snore Station, setsuko and Michael were there to pick us up and transport us to the lodging. If you enjoy the countryside, do yourself a favor and take the opportunity to stay here!.

The staff at Mama Fi gave us a wonderful vacation experience, and we can visit another beautiful side of Japan in this place. During our two nights and three days, we stayed in the lovely and roomy Mimosa villa. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the historic 150-year-old home, which features an iron hearth, lovely sliding doors, and paper-frame windows. The property was kept immaculately, fully equipped, and equipped with the latest conveniences. The Mammas fi team deserves special praise for the very professional service and many thanks to Michael, our helpful and amiable French-speaking English-speaking companion, who helped make this vacation even more special.

It is important to get off the tourist route and go to Mama if you are visiting Japan. It's only 90 minutes from kyoto, but as you travel, you leave the tourists behind and enter real Japan. Mama is a place of outstanding beauty and culture, serene, and totally real. Although the cost of a taton and breakfast isn't great, it's well worth it for the experience of residing in a traditional Japanese thatched cottage. It's a little like staying in an art museum, it's so beautiful. The staff is excellent and well taken care of. I took a bicycle tour and loved it, and I highly recommend it as an activity. The Wild Boar Hotpot is simply breathtaking, inexpensive, and excellent. All around a great location to visit and a fantastic respite from the crowded cities of tourist.

This place has a nice location that provides both modern conveniences and traditional Japanese living in a 150-year-old house. We were picked up at Snore Station and driven directly to the cottage by the staff who are also very kind and helpful. That said, it was very easy to get there.

My mom and I stayed here and fell in love with it! Although it is a traditional Japanese house, it has comfortable beds and modern amenities. The staff is very friendly here and most of them can communicate in English. They are also very responsive. I sent them an email to let them know about the pickup time and the village tour. They normally responded within 24 hours.
