Kenji, the host for the guesthouse was a pleasure to communicate with. Friendly, helpful and responsive, you couldn’t have asked for a better host. The lodging is a traditional Japanese home set up that helps you immerse into history and how families still live in Japan (and East Asia). The location is walking distance to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, temples and tourist zone without being in the thick of it. It’s simple, no frills and comfortable enough accommodation at a convenient location. You have access to fridge and simple kitchen with shared bathroom. I never ran into the other occupants during my stay.

If you’re looking for an authentic tatami mat stay with easy access to great food and local experiences - and don’t mind sharing a bathroom with other guests - we highly recommend this place! Our young kids absolutely loved it and said it was their favorite stay of the trip. As early risers, we enjoyed morning walks to Lawsons for coffee and snacks before heading out for the day. We were able to walk easily to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest multiple times, as well as Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple and Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, all of which I highly recommend visiting. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to others.

Kenji was a very nice host and his "guest house English" speaking was wonderful!! It is a perfect location if you are looking to wake up early and walk to the bamboo forest, you can be one of the first people there. Kenji also gave us recommendations of places to visit in the area that you otherwise may not have known about.

The host was amazing. He contacted us to see what time to expect us. Whenever we walked up he was at the door to welcome us and show us around. We loved everything about our stay. Now understand that this is a traditional Japanese home. My family enjoyed the experience. We were a nice 15 minute walk to the bamboo Forest, a short walk to several dining options, cafe for coffee and a Lawson for convenience. We loved getting out of the hustle and bustle of the big cities for the night. I wish we would have planned to stay longer.

This was a very comfortable and welcoming guest house for a very authentic Japanese experience. It had everything we needed and Kenji was very helpful and kind. The steps to the second floor are steep so it would be tricky for anyone who has difficulty walking. For anyone intimidated by sharing a bathroom or toilet- it was fine. We had no trouble using the facilities whenever we needed them even though the guest house was full. It was a lovely stay.

The location is very comfortable and clean. It is just a walk from the train station and the place where many sakura trees are located. Kenji, the host, was very helpful in showing us the map of kyoto and where we can go to visit. He was extremely friendly and at the end of our trip he walked us back to the railway station. Highly recommended and excellent value for money. In fact it is genuinely kin to home.

The guest house is conveniently located near jr saga-arashiyama station, just a 3minute walk away, making it ideal for travelers with lengthy delays. All of the wellknown tourist attractions, including the bamboo forest and tenryuji temple, are within re 15 minutes walk. The proprietor of this guesthouse is amiable and speaks english fairly well. He also provided us with some recommendations for local attractions (fewer tourists and restaurants) and eateries. With tatami and basic amenities, the room is decorated in chinese fashion. A great place to stay on budgeting travelers.
