Entry Requirements

  1. Before travelling to New Zealand

    • Before planning your travel to New Zealand, make sure you are eligible for travel, meet the visa requirements and have taken the right steps. 

    • COVID-19 vaccination and testing requirements for all travellers arriving in the country, including air crew, are no longer required.

    • To enter New Zealand, travellers no longer need to get a pre-departure test. A traveller declaration is also no longer required.

  3. Leaving New Zealand

    • The country you are travelling to may have entry requirements in place. Be sure to check the requirements of the country you are travelling to. Check:

      • the official website of the country you wish to enter
      • that country’s diplomatic representative in New Zealand
  4. Transit through New Zealand
    • As a transit passenger you can only travel through Auckland International Airport where you must stay in the transit area of the airport or on board your craft. Normally you must spend less than 24 hours in transit in New Zealand.
    • To transit New Zealand, you must:

      • meet one of the categories or exceptions that mean you do not require an NZeTA or transit visa, or
      • hold a NZeTA if you are allowed to transit on an NZeTA, or
      • hold a transit visa if you are required to have a transit visa.

 

New Zealand Traveller Declaration Programme

Travellers arriving at selected New Zealand international airports will be able to complete an online declaration from July 2023.

  • Travellers arriving into Christchurch or Wellington Airport will be able to complete an online declaration from the week starting 10 July 2023.
  • Travellers arriving into Queenstown Airport will be able to complete an online declaration from mid to late July.
  • Travellers arriving into Auckland Airport will be able to complete an online declaration later in August 2023.

The introduction of the NZTD will be a phased approach.

The Passenger Arrival Card will continue to be accepted for a period of time after the NZTD is reintroduced.
