Air Niugini

Air Niugini is a national airline owned by Papua New Guinea based at Air Niugini House on the property of Jacksons International Airport, located at 7 Mile, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The airline operates a domestic network from Port Moresby to all 12 major airports, while its subsidiary, Link PNG, runs a small airport. Air Niugini also operates international services in Asia, Oceania, and Australia every week.

The idea of ​​creating a single national airline for Papua New Guinea was formed in September 1972 when the country was still under Australian rule, and their sky was dominated by Australian airlines. Air Niugini officially operated in 1973 and took over the domestic routes established by Papua New Guinea, as well as opening areas that were previously inaccessible to locals and tourists.

On November 25, 1982, a management agreement was signed with the Dutch airline KLM to help improve the performance of the Air Niugini airline. Under the agreement, KLM provided a team of four executives for three years from February 1, 1983, former KLM Operations Director, and Boeing 747 pilot Leen Van Ryswyk led the group from the Netherlands and assumed the position of Deputy General Manager of Air Niugini.

At present, the Air Niugini fleet consists of Boeing 767 and 737 jets for international routes along with Fokker F-100 aircraft while Q400 and Dash 8 aircraft for challenging terrain. The Fokker F-100 also flies to Cairns in Australia, Honiara, Solomon Islands, and Port Vila, Vanuatu. B737 operates several domestic flights to Manus and Lae.
