Malaysia Airlines Features
Before widely known as Malaysia Airlines, the airline began its journey as Malayan Airways Limited. The first commercial flight was launched in 1947 and is headquartered in Singapore. In 1966, Malayan Airways Limited changed its name to Malaysia Singapore Airlines (MSA) before its assets were divided to form Singapore Airlines and Malaysian Airline System (MAS) in 1972. At that time, most of their international flights were flown out of Singapore, so that Singapore Airlines automatically take over international flights. MAS then took over all domestic routes in Malaysia and international routes from the country.
Malaysia Airlines has two subsidiary airlines, namely Firefly and MASwings. Firefly operates scheduled flights from two of its bases, Penang International Airport and Subang International Airport, and focuses on tertiary cities. Whereas MASwings focuses on inter-Kalimantan flights. Malaysia Airlines has a cargo fleet operated by MASkargo, which manages cargo flights and aircraft loading capacity for all Malaysian Airlines passenger flights.
At present, Malaysia Airlines carries around 40,000 passengers every day to 57 destinations in Southeast Asia, North and South Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and Europe. Each service embodies Malaysia's rich culture and traditions. Thanks to its dedication to customers and the aviation industry, Malaysia Airlines has won many awards from the aviation industry. The airline was named The 5-Star Airline by Skytrax in 2009, 2012 and 2013, and was recognized by the World Travel Awards as Asia's Leading Airline in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
